MSU Project W31 Recreation

Hello car folks. I have exciting news.

The MSU Engineering students that built and raced a 1969 Cutlass S (started as a 442) Holiday Coupe W31 have decided to recreate the drag car of their youth.

This is in the initial phases so all the details have not been hammered out.

The perfect project car is the most important step to get things going in the right direction.

The perfect Project W31 project car would tick all the #1’s from the check list below. Having said this we are very interested to know what people have to offer.

This project car will be modified to recreate the original MSU Project W31 drag car.

Car: #1:1969 442 Holiday Coupe
#2:1969 Cutlass S Holiday Coupe
(must be titled)

Body: #1:Zero rust
#2: Southern or California car with very little rust only in typical spots

Paint: #1:Code 52 Crimson Red
 #2: Any other exterior colour

Chassis: #1:Restored/Rebuilt
#2: Original

Interior: #1: Code 937 White Bucket seat interior
 #2: Any other interior colour

Drivetrain: #1: 1969 W31 350/325HP, Muncie M20 4 Speed, O Type Anti Spin 5.0 gears
#2: Roller

Post or PM what you have.

You do know what is going to happen?

As soon as this clone vehicle is finished.....they will find the real car.

That would be awesome!!!

This one will have a title and VIN so it can be driven and enjoyed, if the OG surfaces we will keep it for show. :-)

Who will own the car? I assume that group has a strategy for how they'll "crowdsource" the build.

I am sure they have a lawyer in their corner and it is all signed in black and white....It`s the only way I would be involved in such a venture.

This is a group of engineers, they have all those details well in hand. They decide as a group what to do or not do. (I enjoy getting them options)

I am staying on the (gather, build, organize, do) side of this project.

These guys are lifelong engineers and project managers, they have had several discussions about this.

After a brief pause this dream finally came true!!!

Garner Customs and Restorations built the MSU Project W31 recreation.

They took a 1969 Cutlass S Holiday Coupe, 52 52 Crimson red, red interior,
310HP 350, M20 4 speed, 3.91 anti spin rear and body off restored it and added the MSU Project W31 touches.

Warmed over W31 engine, Rebuilt Muncie, and rebuilt O type rear 5.00 or 5.38 gears.

This was a surprise to all!!!

The MSU “students” are super excited and are contacting Garner for next steps to be involved!!

They did a great restoration and adding the Project W31 graphics just brings the car alive!!!

I say the same thing every year too - after 3 days of walking the show how did I miss this?

Even after Ryan's publicizing it on FB.

Neat car that is well done.
