It also has a tank sticker that has been validated as original.

Shouldn't it say... The only 1967 "COUPE" L88 with its original engine, Duntov Mark of Excellence, Triple Diamond and Bloomington Gold Awarded Corvette in the World!

They left out the word "coupe", but later in the write-up it says there are three original engine L88 Corvettes. Two convertibles and one coupe.

I know the car well and was fortunate enough to house it when it was here in Texas. Cool history and a very well restored L88. It performs as good as it looks.

I saw that too, very cute. It's the prefix 4 that blows me away.
I had a cousin who bought a repo L88 in about '68-69. Believe it was blue, St Paul area.

Is the generally accepted thought for Corvettes is that the aluminum heads on 67 L88's (and L89's ?) were painted orange with the engine assembly? Not so for 68 and 69?

Motorhead848 01-21-2021 01:58 AM

was this car previously owned by larry bowman? now corvette mike?

TimG 01-21-2021 02:16 AM

L89 Corvettes in 1967 had chrome valve covers. There were only 16 of these. The L88 had orange valve covers in 1967. The chrome valve cover L89 is a beautiful Corvette engine with the high rise tri-power intake.

My un-restored 69 L-89 had bare Aluminum heads, and by the pictures of the red car at Barrett-Jackson 2014, the heads are definitely orange so being a Duntov awarded car we can assume that that is the way the NCRS judges it in 1967 L-88 cars.

I do believe that in 1967 the L-89 cars were the only big blocks that came from the factory with chrome valve covers. I think in 1968 & 1969 all Big Block Corvettes had chrome valve covers.

That would be a 1968/1969 L88. The 1967 L88 didn't have a smog pump, even if delivered in California.

big gear head 01-21-2021 02:49 PM

I'm no expert, but I believe it's a '68 with 842 heads. I think the '69 had 074 heads with no pipe plugs.

firstgenaddict 01-21-2021 03:24 PM

I saw the car at the Cinci regionals and the Greenville SC National NCRS show in 2019. STUNNING!
Corvette Mike's L88 also has a DUNTOV which requires a 100% on the PV performance verification - including a 10 mile drive with the judge to ensure everything operates correctly, accelerate up to 90% of redline. brake without the car pulling etc. No excessive wind noise etc etc etc
That says something about the quality of the restoration. No fan shroud and it didn't overheat during the drive.

MosportGreen66 01-21-2021 03:56 PM

This is an impressive Corvette indeed and an L88 with its OEM block and NCRS Duntov Award is nearly unheard of. I'm surprised its full history is not disclosed however.

Some interesting reading for sure!

olredalert 01-21-2021 09:37 PM

----Most of the 20 67 L88's produced have had various parts of their drivetrain replaced if not all. Some of those have had that and major body restoration as well. The yellow coupe, we have heard, had a substantial amount of bodywork. What is more important? To me, and I stress, only me, the drivetrain is paramount along with the bullet proof paperwork. How many COPO and ZL1 Camaro's have had major body replacement and gone on to be considered very valuable? I'm pretty sure that some know the story here as it's no big secret, but that's no reason to consider this great Corvette any less than massively collectable. Said my piece......Bill S

Mike said he wanted to sign this L88 up for our Frisco NCRS Regional in 2019 and I was thrilled. We made sure there were no issues from a judging standpoint and the car did very well at that event. It really was an honor to have it presented for judging at our Texas Chapter event.

1971ls6 01-22-2021 01:05 AM

2 things
Sounds like a very clever way to not tell you it is a rebody. I would rather have a car like this than a re stamp. Great paperwork

Why does the car not have any NCRS top flight awards?

TimG 01-22-2021 03:00 AM

It has lots of Top Flight awards. To get the Duntov award you need a 97.0 twice, once at Nationals.

1971ls6 01-22-2021 09:26 PM

The description shows no top flights? If it had the Duntov award, it should be the first thing listed

Top Flight 10-25-18
Performance Verification 4-11-19
Top Flight 7-18-19
Duntov 7-18-19
The Duntov Award is an accumulation of the prior three awards.
