1971 Dick Harrell 454 Super Camaro

This is a very special and significant second generation Camaro / Super Car, which has never been offered to the public since it was discovered.

It was ordered new through Bill Allen Chevrolet (a well known and often used Harrell Dealership)

It is an original LS3 SS 396 Big Block which is one of only 1,533 produced that year by GM

Loaded with options such as air conditioning and power steering.

It is also an original factory Black Camaro

It is believed to be the very last Super Car built by DHP, prior to Dick’s death.

The classic chrome Cragar SS wheels are on the DHP invoice

The fiberglass hood and hood pins are also on the DHP invoice

DHP drivetrain conversion included, 454 engine as well as B&M Th400 trans and 12 bolt posi

Original paperwork was acquired from the Dick Harrell Family

The car is fully documented by work orders (loads of documentation) as well as officially certified by the Dick Harrell registry.

There are very few Super Cars which maintain this level of documentation.

Correspondence between DHP and the original customer who ordered the car is priceless!

We believe that this may have been a 1971 LS6 aluminum head conversion as the paperwork only shows 454ci.

The car appears to be very solid and rust free original GM sheet metal, with no prior accident damage.

It was repainted a few years ago by Joe Schoenthaller.

I will post more about the history, but if you are interested please contact me at the shop; 630-377-1222 or email [email protected]

This Camaro is located at our Loves Park, Illinois facility.

The price is $150,000.00

Thank you. We are fortunate in that we have the opportunity to represent some very special cars.

TimG 02-16-2021 07:22 PM

It's shocking that it came with Air Conditioning. That would be a nice combination.

This Super Car was destined for Saint Croix, Virgin Islands so A/C was a good feature to have.

The fellow who ordered it and communicated with Dick on the build, never took delivery as when Dick died in the Drag Race crash in Canada, the car got tied up in his Estate. The title was held by a local bank and the car went to, I believe the President of the bank, since it was not paid in full by the guy who ordered it. He lost his deposit even though the bank tried to work out a payment plan for him. Included with the sale is the signed note by Dick to the bank and all of the correspondence between the guy who ordered it and Dick and then ultimately the Bank and their attorneys.

Wow! Neat car Stefano. I might be a player on it. Will call you tomorrow.

Very interesting car! What's in it for an engine now, is that a cast-iron intake and heads?

$200 for a collect phone call in 1971?! WOW!

50 years later that's like almost $1300 with inflation of 545.88% from then until now.

I think $200 would've bought a running, driving and licensed car back then, no?

Very cool car anyway you slice it!
Anthony

...that phone call cost more than the set of 4 Cragars!

Stefano 03-01-2021 02:06 AM

The documentation and history of the car are incredible. More to follow.

The Grady '67 of Gen 2's, the way that rascal sits!

Stefano 03-02-2021 06:46 PM

Agree.....!

Stefano 03-05-2021 12:50 PM

Check out all of the original documents signed by “Mr Chevrolet” himself just prior to his tragic death. There are not many Super Cars with this level of documentation.

Call was from the Virgin Islands (?) so probably pricey in those days for offshore reverse charge calls
