Vintage 15x12 Aluminum Racing Wheel Identification Centerline Auto Drag?

8 Attachment(s)
I recently picked up this pair of 15x12 aluminum racing wheels out of an estate. I thought they were Centerline Auto Drag wheels and posted them on EBay last night as such. However, the more I look at them, I think they may be something else. Possibly Cragar Super Tricks? These wheels are bolte together rather than riveted and have 15 bolts holding the 2 halves together. Does anyone have an idea of what they could be?

Thanks,

Jason

Looking at the nuts and bolts they sure look like early Cragar super tricks

They look to be early Cragar Super Tricks. Sammy would know for sure but I recall the early Cragars had that specific bolt count if my memory serves me correctly.

Thanks guys. The specific blt pattern vs double drilled was what was throwing me as well as the Center Line caps. Looking at pics online, it looks like the early ones were specifically drilled as you said Graeme.

I just updated the listing. For anyone interested, here it is:

Thanks again,

Those are not factory Cragar Supertrick bolts and nuts. Could be Monocoque wheels with a Centerline cap.

The early Cragar super tricks were single pattern.

If it’s any help Jason the Cragar push through caps is approx. 3 3/16” outside diameter.

Centerline wheels are riveted together, not bolted. I was also thinking that they may be Monocoque wheels.

Centerlines are 28 per wheel.

I also believe that they are Monocoques.

I've never seen those set screws on the back side on supertricks before?

Thanks for all the replies guys. Here are a few more detailed pictures. The cap appears to be about 3.2 inches. The ring in the center of the wheel looks like it may be magnesium.

Thanks again,

Jason

Now that I take another look at the bolts and the style of these rims, they look to be Bogart wheels except for the screws in the hub which throws that up to debate? Check out the Bogart Fly Bolted wheels.

I’ve had Bogarts that had the two Phillips screws on back to hold the centering hub in place. I believe Bogart and Monocoque were even located in the same industrial park.

----Some of the Bogart wheels in the display look very much like Motor Spyders. Wonder if Bogart purchased Motor tooling?.....Bill S

I thought magnesium was banned by all the sanctioning bodies in mid to late 60's.

SuperNovaSS 03-07-2021 10:40 PM

I imagine these wheels are from that time period or earlier.

Monocoque wheels have a different number of bolts as compared to the super tricks ... Just read a post about that on FB...

Thank you. These sold on EBay and have a happy new owner. Whatever they are, they are certainly cool.
