That car was sold new in New Milford CT.
I have the original title to that car. It is a COPO but not a ZL1 car originally but after the original owner got beat racing it, he put a ZL1 engine in it. Dave Arnold was the original owners name from Danbury, CT. He also owned a V/8 Vega. A friend of mine bought that car around 1979 from him. I still have a few parts from it that were taken off early in life. I had the original standard blue rear seat that was absolutely mint and drove down to Doraville GA around 1983 and gave the seat to Lamar Walden to put in ZL1 number 51. His car was one digit on the VIN earlier than my Byrne Bros COPO that I still own since 1976. The picture of the car coming down the return lane was at Dover Dragstrip in Wingdale N.Y. - Warren |
From FB
Dave Arnold sold the ZL1 to a local guy that put it in a 67 Chevelle, Storming Stovebolt. That owner was Butch Davis. Dave at one time owned A&S Speed Shop in Danbury. |
Its in the SuperCar list

No hole above Fuseblock for ZL2 wiring
|
For a short time I had the original BE empty rear housing from that car. Ended up giving it back to the guy I traded some parts for it because the rear tubes were badly bent.
The rear end housing was painted red. - Warren |
Im wondering whats coming out under the Fuse block

This pic is pretty clear that this firewall was not punched for ZL2 harness, no?
|
Cool car, saw the pics on FB too. What's happening with it?

I understand that early cars did not have the hole above the fuse block for the ZL 2 wire. When did that change and when was this car built?
|
124379N676702 is not one of the 69 ZL1s and not an early build.
|
I am 99.9% sure that Dave Beem's Hugger Orange - Dec built Z28 with documented ZL2 has the piercing above the fuse box & I know his 01B Yenko formerly owned by Bill Hunter has the piercing above the fuse box.

Do you have any more clues that it is a COPO besides BE rear end? There is a hole under the Fuse block hole. This Camaron was manufactured in August 69 and by then they had manufactured approximately 800-900 COPOs |
I would need to see the Camaro to try and figure out about the wiring hole for the ducted hood.
To this day I have the original B/B heater box and Z bar from that car. I also had the 155 dated 9204 booster from it which I sold a few years back. Chris Oberhammer who still lives in Bethel CT was the person that purchased it off of the Arnold's. Chris bought the car for the original steel nose for his '69 convertible. The ducted hood pad was still on the hood and Chris installed it on his convertible. I tried to buy the pad but he would not sell it. About five years later I saw his convertible was for sale. I called him wanting to buy the hood pad. He told me his engine had an oil leak and he threw the pad out. Really a shame as that pad would still be mint today if I owned it. I have no idea why there is no ducted hood wiring hole, possibly was overlooked and they ran the wiring through another hole such as the plastic plugged hole for the speedo cable that isn't used on a Muncie car. No doubt in my mind that it is a real 9561 COPO. - Warren |
What's happening with this car, seems like the owner should be able to trace the car back and maybe luck into some paperwork since you know who first owned it.
|
Warren. The owner and his friend want to get in touch with you. PM sent

Got it.
Replied. - Warren |
Did they get the NCRS shipping data report to see if it comes back to Hayes Chevrolet ?
There may have been a dealer swap and the shipping data report may show a different dealer that can be researched. |
Wonder if Chris Oberhammer would remember if 427 was scribbled on the fender extensions?

The vintage paint on Arnold's old COPO is now lost to history, with the exception I purchased the entire fiberglass nose. It is interesting, as all the front end parts are separate. It wasn't a one piece nose. Even has fiberglass inner fenders. Moroso was the manufacturer.
I plan on building the nose around a subframe that I will put casters on, so I can have a vintage Camaro nose for garage art that will be moveable. The car only had 576 miles on it and had the center fuel gauge. I also took a picture of the piece of tape covering the ducted hood wiring hole in the firewall. - Warren |
Sad but thanks for posting the pics.
