1971 lt1

I found a nice low mile LT1 to campaign through the system. With all the LT1's that have been on the site lately my interest in C3's was rejuvenated. I'm still in my infancy with this car, but here's a shot in the garage. Very original with under 1500 miles. Tires, exhaust and air cleaner are original. The only thing changed out is the battery.

Rear, best I can tell this car has never received any touch up paint at all.

Nice “find”!!
Nice work Tim!
Nice Tim! Saw this one on eBay and thought it looked good!
Their weren't any pictures of the important stuff like pad and paperwork. The VIN was concealed up until the last minute I purchased it, but he sent me the tank sticker about nine months ago, so I could figure out the VIN from that. I made an offer and he accepted, good guy that was ready to sell. I've been in touch with him for nearly a year.
----Love it, Tim! You come up with some of the best.....Bill S
Yes, I saw it advertised for quite some time. His pics were terrible! Looks like you got a fair deal too. He was quite optimistic with his original ask!
Love the color! |
Congrats Tim!!
Happy to see a great survivor in the hands of the right owner!! :beers: Cedar Rapids Regional?? Bill W |
Nice options, Deluxe Leather, PW, PB, PS, tilt/tele, radio, and white letter tires. It was off the market for about five months, so I figured it sold. It all of a sudden popped up again.
Great options too.
What is the story behind the low mileage? |
Hi Bill, Nall Motors in Iowa City is the delivering dealer. Wouldn't it be great to bring it to that Regional?
It's not an uncommon story for low mile cars. Dennis Peterson ordered the car when he was 21 and working as a machinist in Iowa City. I looked up his address and he lived in a modest home with a one car garage. The car was his baby and he never drove it. He had another car for work and pleasure. He never married or had children, so when he passed away his brother got the car. It passed through two owners and received a Bloomington Benchmark award in 1996. It's been seen once in 50 years at a show.
Congratulations, great car.
It will be good to get it back in circulation!
Zedder, I know you've been looking for an original LT1, did you ever visit with the owner?
No Tim. I didn’t bother since his asking price was so high originally.
He came down substantially. I wasn't looking for another car, but couldn't resist.
Congrats Tim! I can't wait to see you with this one on the show field!

AND/OR, at the original owners house/garage??? |
Bill, I'd love to make it, but I don't think I'll have the car ready by that time. The wipers, blower motor and horn are not functioning at this time. Also, the original fuel pump has a bit of a leak, so that is coming off this weekend.
Congratulations Tim, and thanks for sharing. Love to have it displayed at MCACN!!!
Steve, if I can get the LT1 to the Frisco, TX for the Regional I’ll get it up to MCCAN. It has its Bloomington Benchmark so I just need a top-flight to bring it to Rosemont.

I had that car pulled up on my eBay favorites. I’m hoping to see detail photos of this super low mile Corvette Survivor after your done sorting it out. Super Cool. Thanks for sharing and waiting for more. Chris. |

Super cool car! Congratulations Tim
Congrats Tim! Can't wait to see the car personally. Looks like a great car to campaign. Like others I had saved it in my favorites too. Glad if found its way into the right hands.

IT will be a bowtie car for sure...
Extremely nice piece, I cannot believe I missed it being on the market, although I had been trying to get a 9k mile 70 LT1 into a guys hands so I had been answering his questions. Tim you may know about the paint work on C3's --- I thought my car had paint work because there was a little overspray on the tail lamp lense which I cleaned off. Then at the NCRS regionals I was informed that most C3's were touched up prior to leaving St Louis and that often there found overspray on the edge of the tail lamp lenses and around the front top edge of the doors. I said yea I removed it from the lenses... :frown: I would love to see a few photos of the original exhaust, does it have crimped bends or are they smooth? |

Lots of C3's have overspray on the bumper bolts. It's often cleaned off because folks don't realize the factory did touch up the paint on C3s often. This Steel Cities Gray car has no touch up that I can see, it's a great original paint car.
Here's a quick shot of the exhaust, I can get better ones if that will help. The pipes are definitely crimped. |
Thanks Tim, that chassis is gorgeous!
They always need work, even a 1,400 mile chassis. It was in a garage in Iowa for most of its life and the different temperatures and humidity created some surface rust. Light cleaning is making it look great.
I could spend a month of Sunday's working on cleaning that car and be the happiest guy on earth!!
I probably signed off on the Benchmark certificate at Bloomington for that car. It's gorgeous!
Tim,
Not sure how I missed this thread. Car looks great and love the color. Can't beat the miles and originality. The LT1's run great. Cannot wait to see it on the show field! Best, Dave |

Here's the Benchmark Certificate. I had this in my files with the owner and VIN blacked out. I'm not really worried about the VIN being known, this was from the prior owner.
It also received the "Low Mile Award" at Bloomington. This is the only time the car has been shown in 50 years. I'd like to get it to the Frisco NCRS Regional and MCCAN. |
Tim, what an awesome car! I can't wait to see it in person.

Thank you, guys.

----Looking at that Benchmark award I realized that Jan and I were still working for BG doing all the T-shirts, hats, patches, etc.! we did that for 20 years. We were always so busy that I never got a chance to see much of the rest of the show. Not surprised that I didn't see this beautiful LT1. It will be a treat to visit this year and just have fun!.....Bill S
