1969 COPO Camaro Colors
I had a discussion with a friend about how many COPOs are accounted for in each color. So, I counted the colors of known & documented cars in our registry:
Champagne - 0 Butternut Yellow - 2 Glacier Blue - 3 Burgundy - 4 Azure Turquoise - 4 Frost green - 4 " " - 5 Burnished Brown - 11 Dusk Blue - 14 Garnet Red - 15 Olympic Gold - 15 Dover White - 19 Tuxedo Black - 21 Cortez Silver - 34 Rallye Green - 44 Daytona Yellow - 66 LeMans Blue - 79 Fathom Green - 82 Hugger Orange - 86 We have just over half of the 1969 COPO Camaro production accounted for. |
What's " " with a number of 5? Special-order color cars?
|
Yes
|
|
What special paint colors have been observed on the COPOs?

What I know:
#36 Rampur Green [Cadillac] #73 Verdoro Green [Pontiac] #87 Windward Blue [Pontiac] #8631 Can-Am White [Corvette] X-03 Nugget Gold [Toronado] Also believe there was a late production car in '70 Citrus Green. Heard of another that was believed to be '68 British Green. Courtesy Chevrolet, Sebring OH ordered a number of ZL2 '69 Camaros with a special COPO hood stripe. At least two COPOs had it: 10 10 [orange stripe?] 67 67 [white stripe]. |

May be just a coincidence, the three surviving cars are also RS.

That's comfort weave.
|
So that ZL2 stripe is considered a factory stripe?
|
Yes, applied on the line.

I wouldn't say it's 100%, but pretty sure.
That picture appeared in the USCC magazine asking about a hood stripe that was on a SS396. Then the Courtesy window sticker appeared with a COPO stripe listed. Connecting the dots.... |
The black Courtesy - - paint COPO RS still exists, same stripe in original photos.
|
Don't want to derail the conversation, but I've never seen a '69 Camaro in Champagne.
Anyone have a picture of one? |
There's plenty of room here for all conversations!

Spectacular! Thank you for posting that. I bet that color looks amazing in person.
|
Honestly, I've been a fan of the color for years as I tend to prefer softer golds. The fact that it tends to be among the rarest for muscle is a nice cherry on top.

A little off subject, but still about COPO paint. I thought that even X11 or X22 COPOs did not have black body sills, regardless of body color, or Pinstripe above the wheel wells. Is that correct?
|
No.
The few originals remaining have the D96 striping and black sills where appropriate. COPOs with the optional D90 striping did not also have D96. |
