67 Z Factory Headers
1 Attachment(s)
Just received my headers and really pleased with the workmanship. Now the question is what color do I coat them. I was thinking about trying to get close to the transparent blue color they were painted back in the day but I don’t know if any of the colors out there come close to recreating that. I’ve talked to several shops locally that do ceramic coating and they all recommend not doing a color outside of black or silvers due to the lower temp rating on other colors. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks, Paul

Paul,
As a suggestion, you could ask this fellow where he sends his headers to be coated..... https://www.manta.com/c/mb8nx9g/sweet-ave-fabrication He is recreating the M/T Scavenger headers and is getting them coated in orange. Graeme turned me on to him. He really seems to be on top of his game. Tim |
Thanks Tim, I’ll give him a call.

Those look great - who sells them?

Larry Cristensen still builds the Bill Thomas/Douglas and I believe Kustom headers to order. Turnaround was about 6-8 weeks.
|
Ah, cool. Do you mind sharing what you paid? I may have a set built while they are still available.

I got a Set of Kustom (KH137) versions from Steve Pelier (sp) in, CO.
Mine were coated by Performance Coating Inc. Auburn Wa Take a peek at their Satin Gray 2000 Degrees A great choice for stock exhaust manifolds. Dark gray with a blue. Makes any cast iron part look new, and stay that way! |

I dealt with Larry on the headers but I believe he works with Steve Pelletier at Camaros Plus in Wheatridge CO.

We have been using this product https://www.cerakote.com/ on headers/exhaust, gas and brake related items and have been very happy with the out come. Lots of colors to chose from.
Most custom Fire Arms Shops are using this product. Super durable, Dissipates heat quickly, gas and brake fluid impervious. Just got to find a shop that has a big enough blast cabinet and oven to do bigger items such as headers and exhaust parts I'll post a couple of pictures of a set of Cobra Headers and side exhaust later if you'd like. |
Cerakote is what I want to try on some exhaust manifolds.
