SUPER JOHN's 1969 Harrell Camaro

Anyone know about his car from 1969!

It was the car in the 1/4 Million 1/4 mile race. I posted that another site claimed it was "an 'original' COPO' All-Aluminum 427 that ran NHRA SS/C." So was it a COPO or not? Is it around today??

I'm no drag racing historian but vintage photos of production ZL-1 Camaros show they were raced in SS/B.

I believe I have Super John.
The one I have is not a COPO 9560

Carleen, your post is what got me thinking about this. I believe you say you have one of Brooklyn's '69's. BUT I do think he had a few from what I have read. Just wondering if anyone knows where it went or what is was?

What make you think this yours is the old Super John car? Yours being an RS front end car, and Super John wasn't?

From what I read on the Super John Camaro, it was built from a body in white shell that DH got from Chevy. His 1967 Funny car was also built from a body in white.

The Super John Camaro was built as a light weight Camaro with gutted front end , fiberglass nose, no front brakes, used a drag chute, 2x4BB Tunnel Ram. They ran in AHRA SS/E or match race trim.

The AHRA SS/E (not the same as NHRA SS/E) cars and match race cars were very fast and popular and became Pro Stock in 1970.

From what I can tell, DH set up the Super John Camaro and ZL-1 #1 , #15 , and #29 as light weight SS/E or match race Camaros.

DH may have built others because these were popular match race money makers.
The ZL-1s that ran in NHRA were set up different.

I have 3 69 Camaros.
All are old race cars.
Brooklyn Heavys 69 Camaro Brooklyn Wild Pumpkin and the White Heavy 69 Camaro is the same one.

Super John Camaro. I can read Super John and Nickey Chevrolet on the side of it.
Also Quaker state on the side of front fenders.

Someone told me that Leatherman Camaro was in an accident and Dick Harrell used a Body in White to repair it.
So Super John and Leatherman can have been mixed up with each other

Any idea what wheels are on the back of the Camaro in the first pic in this thread?

Depends on the sanctioning body. AHRA, which Gibb ran, allowed altogether rules/modifications than NHRA.

According to somebody, it was Dick Harrell who made the Rebody of Leatherman Camaro.
Dick Harrell was angry that he had not been paid for the Camaro before the crash.
Somebody also sent me some Pictures of Leatherman Camaro after Harrell rebuilt it .
