Gorgeous '69 Chevelle #s L78 4-sp Convertible
Another beautiful car where the seller is claiming an original block with no pics. Great looking car, but no docs and a replacement Muncie...would sure be helpful to see that engine pad pic. I'll ask the seller if he can provide one.

The trim tag is missing the L code, and the tag also looks way too crisp to me.
|
Good call on the L code...personally I believe it's an original tag as it has the right Baltimore anomalies, but I'd also expect to see the L on a Super Sport car.
|
The seller is in Germantown, WI, a short drive for me. Don't know much about '69 Chevelles but would volunteer to go there for a look.
|
I thought the L was only on Leeds cars?

The L code was used on Kansas City Mo. Leeds Assembly plant tags, not Baltimore,as this one has.
|
Yep, that’s what I get for posting too late at night.

Man, I thought so too. So, the BM would become BL, correct?

From the auction wording: "This Chevelle has received a very detailed nut and bolt frame off restoration to a level that most cars never receive."
Which apparently includes the incorrect grilles over the cowl vents, an a/c upper radiator hose, chrome piping on the edge of the bucket seat bottoms, and the wrong master cylinder :( |
And the seats bolted on top of the carpet ......
|
looks awesome. Depending on what he wants all this small stuff is easy fix.
|
I was referring to Ls6owners Q about the single letter "L" on the bottom used in '70.

This probably deserves its own post, but is there enough evidence now to conclusively say an "L" on Kansas and Baltimore 69 tags denotes SS? Just as we are with X codes on 69 Camaros. IMO I believe so on Kansas cars, unsure on Baltimore as I haven't seen as many Balt tags as Kan tags, but there are far better minds here than I.
