'73 #s RS/Z28

Love the "Medium Orange Metallic" color. Powertrain stamps look good....

Underbody looks pretty clean, consistent with a car from the Southwest. Bummer to see the dash and door panels cut for a modern-ish stereo, but not the end of the world to fix.

Nice car with a few things added. The door panels and gauge bezel are from a TypeLT and the RS looks to be a add on and most likely not born with.

Crush 05-28-2022 02:42 PM

That wasn’t a factory color, right? I like the stance!

scuncio 05-28-2022 03:03 PM

That color code is definitely original and matches the TT, but I'm not sure how close the current paint is....

Nice looking car...just added it to my watch list. I've been looking for a nice second gen and may take a run at this one.

x2.

Cool car, it's a factory grind out, but looks real.

Tim, what do you mean by "factory grind out?" I'm always trying to learn...

TimG 05-29-2022 05:01 PM

You can see where the factory took a grinder and ground some numbers off. These marks go left to right on the pad and were done to correct a factory error. Not uncommon at all.

McCune 05-29-2022 07:03 PM

That car was also born with no stripes! The pad numbers look bad for the VO116CLJ

How'd you figure it for being a no stripe car? In saying that, do you see it as an LT Z28 with the RS front end added to it?

I don't know enough about second gens, and every time I turn around, I see people noting or commenting on the hoods and inner fenders as well as the interior trim to identify if it's correct or not?

School me at will here as I need to learn more on 70-73's

Shouldn't there be an emblem on the top of the header behind the nose piece too?

McCune 05-29-2022 07:52 PM

The car is a Sport Coupe Camaro Z28 not a TypeLT model. It does have some of the TypeLT interior that was no doubt added at some time. The steering wheel is also from a 78 or later 2nd Gen. The Trim Tag would have YF8 after the Z28 call out if it had black stripes from the factory. That area on the tag is blank which means no stripes! It looks like the red C emblem is missing from the upper header panel. Good catch! It is a decent car but definitely a builder from parts borrowed from other cars.

McCune 05-29-2022 08:10 PM

I went back and look a bit harder at the pictures and the car has a 72 center console and non 73 seat belts as well. I don't think the factory shoulder belts would even work on that car.
The engine is very suspect and does not have the correct heads. The stock intake that is shown is not the right stuff at all. Missing some key very hard components for a factory correct car. Not trying to pick it apart too bad but thought it was worth sharing to a member that has interest in this car. I am happy to answer any questions you have.

And that's just one reason I keep coming to this site. Knowledge is power.

NorCam 05-29-2022 10:22 PM

I second that Lynn.

Thanks for the notes on the car Jim. Very much appreciated indeed.

Amazing, nothing gets past this group.

We are all so fortunate to have access to this type of hands on data base. I love to learn.
