2022 Chevrolet HD Duramax
Does anyone have a new HD Duramax to compare fuel mileage with. I purchased a new one a 3500 srw longbox 4x4 High Country and the fuel mileage has only been 10.9 to 11.6 in town driving. I'm still breaking it in so I haven't pulled a 5th wheel yet to see what that brings. I've got 900 miles on it and still the same mileage. Had it checked for any codes or software updates there are non currently.
I know you don't buy these trucks for economy but I traded in a 2020 same truck and it got 18-19 city average (best was 21) and it got 12.9 to 13.5 pulling a loaded 5th wheel. To many other electrical and mechanical problems with it to keep it. Now I'm missing it. Thanks, Larry |
Hi Larry, when I bought my 2020 it would get 24-24.9 on road trips.
It’s been in for service work this year, (61 day in the first 3 months) and thanks to the General it now gets 17-17.5 on the good days. Can’t seem to cure it so, I think I’ve had enough. 4 Dura-Max trucks in 13 years. I think GM has decided that I will just be OK with it. They are wrong. Your 10.9-11.6 is terrible and they should be able to help that, I would think. Good Luck, Joe. |
My 2021 crew cab 4x4 says 14 on the dash. mostly short trips around the farm. I think the day I brought it home was a 30 mile trip and said 21 or 22.

My 2020 gets about 20-21 (provided it does not regen). There is a recall on it revolving around the regen. I fear that new flash may be the culprit of the change in Joe's mileage.:dunno:
I get about 12-13 with my 28ft enclosed trailer (loaded) if I keep it between 65-70 Tim |
My 2020 got real consistent mileage about the same as yours with or without the trailer. I traded it in still under warranty because the dealer had it more than I did at times. Plus it was worth more than I paid for it new on trade in. (blown hydro boost oil all over the floor, 3 sets of battery's, cracked charging terminals 2, pin hole in radiator hose, engine oil leak, transmission oil leak I never fixed, and bad rear shocks to name a few. Now the 2022 getting horrible mileage. Larry

I have 4,000 Miles on my 2022 Yukon Denali 6 cyl turbo diesel. 26 mpg Highway consistently. Pulling loaded trailer cuts it down to 13 to 14 though. I’m happy with that. WAY better then the Escalade that it replaced.

Friend of mine has a 2020 I think, took it in they did an update on the computer and now it gets no better then 16/17. Was getting like 21/22….

I don't have a new one but I do have an 05 4x4 crewcab duramax that I never drive unless I have to tow something.
I have used it on a couple road trips though. It has gotten a best of 20 mpg highway, and gets 15-16 mpg in town. Towing a fully loaded 28ft enclosed gets about 11-12 at 70-ish mph and pulling the open flat bed with a car on it at the same speeds gets about 14 mpg. I was just looking at a brand new 2022 at the dealer a couple weeks ago. Crew cab 4x4 with an $85k sticker on it. I would have expected they would do better than my 05, but the sticker has me keeping mine. |
I am pretty sure my brother's 2014 that I posted for sale here was getting 18-21 unladen. I know he was shocked at how good the mileage was for such a beast of a truck.
He ended up selling to a dealer. He is out of the Country right now, but will check when he gets back. Was listed for sale here: https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?t=169188 |

It's approaching 300k miles and smokes a bit, but the POWER!! I pass a lot of Dodge Rams going up hill. Is my truck really 18 years old now? (Ack!!) K |

I probably should have mentioned I keep mine on the hot street tune where it's gotten 20 highway. I could probably move it to the tame tune and squeak more but never tried. Towing I use a tow tune that pumps up the power a tad but still easy on the trans. And yeah, the pulling power going up the mountains is hilarious. Just use cruise control and it never slows down or even downshifts. Puts my old 79 1 ton with a 454 to shame. That's the sole reason I bought the darn thing. |
I pull with a 2007 diesel 3500 dually and it get 12 to 14 towing an enclosed Featherlite and 20 without the trailer. I also have a 2018 dually with 6.2 gas that gets 10 pulling same trailer and up to 16 without the trailer but the power is considerably less than the diesel. When I get in the hills the gas is downshifting seems like a lot to me. I am seriously considering taking the gas 2018 to Hodges and have a car hauler bed installed, maybe then it will ride better. That 18 is the roughest riding damn truck I have ever owned.

Geez, I have a 2020 GMC HD2500 with 6.6 gas and I love it. It looks like Im getting sbout the same MPG (14 and 17-18 HWY) as the 2022 Duramax. It says my best mileage was 19.6 for 50 miles.
The 6.6 gas engine is totally an upgrade from the previous 6.0. |

2017 HD 2500 CC L5P D-Max, these are typical numbers empty and dragging the box at my usual 75-80. Under ideal conditions I did once see 15.5 with the trailer at 65mph (construction zone), and 28.6 empty with cruise set at 70 mph for 80 miles.
My D-Max is very sensitive to outside air temps and headwinds kill towing milage, and of course leaning on the pedal. When this truck was new I had the dealer monitoring DEF usage as it seemed to guzzle the stuff while towing, which is 95% of it's usage. Over time that changed and now with 44K on the clock it's not an issue. Other than recalls for seat belt and block heater it has been trouble free. Bill W |
Do you guys figure mileage the old fashion way rather than rely on that computer screen?
I ask because I've found mine to not be all that accurate. It's actually a little happy. My screen driving around town always says it's getting about 18 most of the time, probably an average figure, but even when it's just around town for weeks it doesn't change, not to mention that figure isn't even close to actual. Plus the gallons it says it uses is also on the light side. It generally says I've used 2-3 gallons less than what I actually pump in the tank to fill it. Basically I don't trust that thing and do the old "gallons pumped vs miles driven" method. |
I can only speak for my truck. The old school way compared the indicator is pretty close. I've been checking it and one will be like 11.6 and other 11.3. Reading other forums it sounds like GM is pessimistic actually reading in your favor. Larry
