Hurricane Superbird

Who owns this one? Ouch.
|
I was hoping that was photo shopped. If not I think I will throw up...
|
Wow, very very sad situation in Florida right now. I can't imagine going through that.
I must admit if not Photoshop those uprights for the wing on that Superbird are amazingly strong. |

It's even worse:

That might be a Hemi Superbird. Aren't those resonators before the Chrome Exhaust Tips? Only Hemi cars have them.
|
Once a vehicle has been submerged in salt water, it will need to be dismantled to the last bolt and nut and rebuilt. I would be surprised if an insurance company is going to do that. Best they can hope for is to get enough from insurance and keep the car to rebuild.
I think the damage on the Orange quarter panel is from the wing crushing it, so yeah, that wing must be very stout. Remember the guy that recently purchased the pair of '68 Hemi cars ?? I don't recall if he is near the coast or not. Hope not. |

I know a good friend of this bird owner. There were 4 total in the garage. He relocated 2 of them to higher ground and left 2 of them up on car lifts as high as possible. But that didn’t help obviously.
|
Might not get paid by insurance at all. They could class it as an "Act of God". Lots of insurance does not cover that.....
What are those 2 cars worth? $700K ++? |

New McLaren w/ just 300 Miles on it was washed out of the owner's garage too. :frown: ~ Pete . |
Wow, painful to see! Likely caused because of the garage doors on both ends.
|
The Superbird and the Daytona were in a garage on Bonita Beach off Hickory Blvd., about 20 minutes from where I live. They were hit HARD with the storm surge. A friend owns a classic video game store about a 1/2 mile from this and his store was entirely submerged by the surge, and he lost everything. There is so much devastation west of route 41 that it's hard to imagine. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers while we recover from this nightmare.
|
That sucks. I would have loaded up the dogs and those two winged warriors (and the wife if there was room left) and went to higher ground.

I figure anyone that owns an 8-million-dollar beach front home should have enough money and sense to save a couple of my favorite cars. All he needed was a '69 Trans Am and he would have had the trifecta. That being said, by the time they realized they were going to take a direct hit it was probably too late to get the cars moved. Hate that the guy had the trouble, it terrible what those folks are facing down there. |
Meeting up with my daughter-in-law tomorrow north of Atlanta to take the grandkids back to Michigan with us. They live in Cape Coral which was hit really hard as well. My son who’s in law enforcement in the Cape is working 12 hour shifts, seven days a week until further notice. He’s hearing they may have to rebuild the power grid so no power or running water. They are also saying school may not restart until Jan 1st.

And here I thought Leonard Nimoy died. ;)

I don't think anybody realized how bad it was going to be. I probably would have done the same thing by leaving the 2 cars on the lifts in thinking they would be ok.
|
That is exactly correct. Almost all of the models were taking the storm further up the coast to or past Tampa, which is ~150 miles north of Naples. Plus, no one expected the storm surge to be nearly as high as it was. I've been here almost 25 years and there hasn't been another storm with any kind of surge remotely like this one from Ian.

More destruction

I really feel for the people in Florida.
|
Between the fires here in CA.. to the hurricanes in FL... to the tornados in the midwest over the last few years. A lot of very nice and rare classic cars have been destroyed.

Chevrolet built 20,302 1969 Z/28s. Wanna bet there are at least 40,000 on the road today? |
It is truly devastating the loss of these assets, and it goes without saying and what we all know, it’s all just stuff. I could lose my shop, lose my job, and lose my 507 or any other car I’ve owned for that matter and I’ll survive. Yes, I’ll be sad and it is devastating, but I can replace stuff with more stuff. If something happened to my wife I’d be forever lost. :frown:
Everyone that went through this and came out on the other side with collateral damage, it goes without saying we are all sympathetic and saddened to hear it. But if none of your loved ones were lost, be eternally grateful for that as some might not have been so lucky. Always focus on the positive and remember the best things in your life: family, health, and friends. Plus, look at the bright side. Now you can look for more fun stuff when things settle down!:headbang: Best to all affected by this tragedy!! Cheers:beers: Dave & Kelly |

Nice that's it's upright. That sucks seeing water pour out of it.
|
This entire storm was like a tornado in that some areas had so much devastation while nearby locations had nothing. The rebuilding continues.

Cars are SOLD with Salvage titles and insurance paid off already!!
|
Wow, that didn't take long !!!
Someone has a LOT of work ahead of them to salvage those cars, or parts. Best of luck with that. |
I don't think a salvage title carries the stigma that it did in the past. Good luck to the new owners and hopefully they do them right.
