those chinese steering wheels are hideous

Charley Lillard 01-18-2023 01:01 AM

Looks like a used 69 Rosewood wheel to me.

Charley Lillard 01-18-2023 01:07 AM

Car has great paperwork.

scuncio 01-18-2023 01:40 AM

Charley, what happened to that red '68 Yenko from England?

Charley Lillard 01-18-2023 01:00 PM

Level One Restorations restored it for Phil Mitchell.

Xplantdad 01-18-2023 01:23 PM

That's the one that was in northern AZ, correct?

Charley Lillard 01-18-2023 03:15 PM

yes

Xplantdad 01-18-2023 04:14 PM

Thought so, thanks:headbang:

1967Z28 01-20-2023 01:48 AM

Why does it have deluxe seats and standard door panels?

David C. 01-21-2023 01:23 AM

Car going to mecum has quite a few issues, looks more like a driver quality restoration. The level one restoration car is much nicer.

enio45 01-31-2023 11:32 PM

what happen to the tach that is suppose to be on the dash cluster and sender on the firewall?

z28s4mjg 02-02-2023 12:52 AM

Brake booster and master cylinder

The booster and master cylinder are reproductions

Rsconv68 02-02-2023 01:15 AM

That car is a mess. I’m no expert but I started writing down all the wrong and bad things I saw and ran out of ink……

bergy 02-02-2023 06:53 AM

All true, but…. Great colors, great docs, lots (not all) easy fixes. If hidden VINs and ownership history checks out - Could be a great car. It’s a YENKO :-)

totally agree with bergy - u cannot find better docs, and if the vins are untouched - a great car to have and sort out the wrong stuff!

Rsconv68 02-04-2023 01:59 AM

If you read the description, it doesn’t state the engine is the transplanted cone. Single piston Chevelle style rotors/single piston calipers? It doesn’t say anything about matching numbers equipment. If none of it is there…….

does anyone know who the current owner is for this car?

I believe Darrel Meister is the current owner. I've never actually seen this car in person. I would be interested to know what the body number is. There is a group of Matador Red RS/SS 68 Yenko Camaros with consecutive body numbers.

Update. Car sold at Mecum. Frank Arone was tasked with making it perfect but discovered it is a rebody. Mecum refunded the purchase and took it back.

Damn...Good on Mecum for doing what they did:beers:

SS427 09-20-2023 01:00 PM

Anyone know who originally restored this Mecum Yenko?

Charley Lillard 09-20-2023 01:14 PM

I think it was the orig. owner that did the rebody.

I thought Darrell's brother in minn did the resto - they owned this car for a very long time from what i understand.......not sure who did the rebody - before the resto work or ?

Charley Lillard 09-20-2023 11:57 PM

Darrell did the current restoration but my understanding is the orig. owner did the rebody. Back then if you wrecked something you just got another body and swapped your stuff. Not sure when the hidden #'s on the top of the cowl got obliterated to where they couldn't be read.

Rsconv68 09-21-2023 05:58 AM

Lots of documentation…but not for this car. Ouch.

Copo_Cartel 09-21-2023 08:18 PM

Nasblu here on this site found out the back story on the rebody during his research of this car and its owner history….and he alerted the principal people involved after the auction purchase. Kuddos to him. He has helped several people on this site including myself.

Nasblu 09-22-2023 11:51 AM

I wont go into a lot of details of this cars life with names, places and dates etc but yes unfortunately the car had been rebodied. The original owner did not rebody the car. The car was sold by the original owner as a very nice intact street car. The 2nd owner drag raced the car extensively and modified the car in doing so. He did not rebody the car (although he did do the modifications that led to the cars original body's demise). The 3rd owner is the one who rebodied the car The body tub of YS-8035 sat behind his garage for a period of time before it was purchased and used in some form of dirt track racing before it met its ultimate demise of being scrapped and crushed. The original YS-8035 body is gone. 1968 Yenko Camaro YS-8035 RIP.

enio45 09-22-2023 04:12 PM

thanks for the info and research - so, when it was sold at mecum - i dont recall seeing the trim tag pics prior to auction - so was it obvious that the trim tag was removed and reinstalled that would have flag a potential issue? What triggered Frank to investigate the originality of the car?

Nasblu 09-22-2023 04:26 PM

I called Frank and notified him there was an issue and he followed up with pulling the cowl panel and fender and confirmed what I had suspected.

302moz 09-22-2023 10:59 PM

68 Yenko

How many owners did the car have ?
