Eagle pics

Had a road kill overnight out front and an eagle came along and claimed it from the Crows.

A car came along and it took off with it in its talon.

I didn't see where it when when it left, but my wife went for a walk a short time latter and saw it had circled around and landed in our side yard to dine on it.

We have a patio door on the lower level and when I approached to get pics, it saw me and stopped eating and stared at me for a couple minutes. I froze in place and she eventually went back to eating. I believe it is a female as it was very large. She was about 30 ft from the house.

Moments before she decided she was done and took off.

They are cool as all hell! We have the good fortune where we are, the eagle population has come storming back.

I wouldnt call it a " real common" sight yet, but often enough. They are so majestic.

dustinm 04-04-2023 04:26 PM

Thanks Mitch. No matter how many of them I see I always look forward to seeing more. A couple weeks ago driving to work I watched one fly down and snatch up a road kill which was very awesome when its in your windshield view.

They are magnificent!!

Awesome birds! That'll soon be a political meme. Be back in 40.

----Here on the St Clair River we are lucky enough to have a lot of these majestic birds. This year with a relatively mild winter so we had no ice on the river, but when we did (in years past) the eagles would sit on the ice chunks floating down and ride right past our house. They also roost near us. We are in a relatively heavily populated area, but they seem to coexist with us. In the 20 years we have lived here I have never heard of an eagle killed by human hands. I believe that's true,,,at least I really hope so!.....Bill S

Super cool!

We are just 1/2 mile from the St Croix river and this one is half of a mated pair that we see soaring overhead quite often.
About 5 weeks ago, we looked out and they were roosting in a tall Cottonwood in our front yard for a while. Really couldn't get a clear pic thru all the branches.

I believe the eagle first mentioned in this thread may have been dining on the Easter Bunny :(

Yep, they've even been on TV!

On NCIS The episode aired at 9 pm on Monday, March 13 on CBS

Amazing live cam! :beers:

MN DNR has Eagle cams too and this video shows one of the nests falling out of the tree only 6 days after the Eaglet had hatched. We had freezing rain that turned into wet, heavy snow overnight Friday into Saturday with wind gusts around 40 mph and the main limb holding the 2,000lb nest broke. Unfortunately, the Eaglet died from the fall.

That’s awesome Mitch. We have a Peregrine Falcon that visits us from time to time. I saw one last week on final approach in the 310 after running out for the $600 hamburger. Seeing one soar at 1,000ft a few yards from you is awe inspiring and terrifying all at the same time. We have a saying in aviation, “Hours of boredom followed by moments of sheer terror.” Smack into one of those in a small private plane and it’s not the former you sense!

Cheers
Dave

Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing. We get red tail hawks daily and have heard rumors of neighboring towns spotting Bald Eagles but we’ve never seen them to date

Another thing we have in common Mitch. I love pics of eagles. I have so many framed we don't have wall space to hang them all.

Naw, dat dere was Briar Rabbit. He was so full of hisself, he thought he could stop traffic while he crossed the road. Well, them people going 60 in a 45 mph zone sure showed him who was boss...
Briar Fox and Briar Bear were standing at the edge of the woods and laughing up a storm, saying, "dat dere is de end of dat sassy rabbit".
