Another Hugger Orange RS/Z28

8 Attachment(s)
I just acquired a twin (not an identical twin) to my RS/Z. It wasn't a car I was searching for; in fact, I was performing an inspection on a 69 Z28 for a customer. How this came to be six weeks earlier Howard old friend from PA called and asked if I could verify if a Z28 his friend owned. I requested some pics but never received any. Since I was heading in that area I decided to call him and he decided to call the owner and get back to me. After inspecting the RG Z28 I received a text requesting I look at the RS/Z. I headed there and the car was sitting in the driveway. I verified Vin's, trim tag and component stampings and headed home with pics to complete a report. The next day I showed my wife the pics and discussed the car and she said, "why don't you buy it". I called Eric the owner and told him I was interested, and he was thrilled. The next week hooked up my trailer and picked the car up.

It was previously owned by a famous member of this site around 2001. This car has a fantastic history, and I will write up a detailed feature for Members Rides in the next month. Here are a few pics. Great documentation, original window sticker, POP.

I searched the name on the POP and located the original owner who was quite enthusiastic about discussing the car. He had a great recollection of the car and even provided me a copy of the original invoice!

So I'm told the car may have been involved in SCCA events by a previous owner. It retains its original engine and transmission, but the suspension was upgraded with over-the-counter JL8 service package. Thats most likely when that was changed. Trying to track down that owner. I know the first owner,
name of the second and the 3 previous to me.

I just added the validated original window sticker to my originals post. I have erased the ECL codes in an attempt to prevent duplication.

LOL........I think this is the first time I was referred to as "famous". Usually it's inmafous or a variety of other adjectives ;)

drdave69 05-19-2023 05:34 PM

Makes me REALLY miss my hugger orange, black top and stripes, orange interior Z/28 I had over 20 years ago. Those are beautiful cars.

enio45 05-19-2023 07:08 PM

congrats - one of my favorite colors and to have the window sticker is absolute the best with any car.......

congrats again!

Steve Shauger 05-19-2023 11:24 PM

Thanks you all for your kind words. I look forward to learning more about the history and how /why the suspension was upgraded to trans am race bred suspension and brakes components. I look forward to correcting non-assembly line hardware and improving the car.

Another mystery is it was built 2D and sold four months later on 6/19 at a another dealer 120 miles away in Massachusetts( dealer trade?). The original purchaser stated it was on the lot. Btw he traded in a 67 435 hp coupe and I found it in the C2 registry and it achieved top flight award!

AnthonyS 05-19-2023 11:32 PM

Very cool story and more to come, I'm sure. Yay!

MosportGreen66 05-20-2023 12:30 AM

Killer RSZ Steve! Stunning in those colors, docs, and level of originality.

Jonesy 05-20-2023 01:40 AM

Hard to get any better than that! Nice car!

Original Invoice

I located the original owner from the POP info. He's an amazing guy who recalled intimate details about the car. He kept the original invoice and also has invoice for the 67 435 hp Corvette Coupe he traded in. I located the listed owner in the C2 Corvette registry (resides in Dexter, MI) and reached out but no response.

cruiserofland 05-21-2023 05:29 PM

Those beauties look great together - congrats Steve!

Beautiful 69 Z Steve, you have two great looking ones now. I kick myself to this day i did not buy one back in the 70s. I looked at one up the street from me, 2,000 dollars back then. Missed the boat. Happy for you and enjoy.

Sean 05-22-2023 12:24 AM

Man that is aweseome so happy for you sir!!

sixt9rsx33 05-22-2023 10:41 PM

Congrats Steve that is awesome to have two HO RSZ's. Love to hear the story why the guy traded in a 67 L71 for a 69 Z28.

I will ask him. He modified the Corvette by painting the white stinger body color, installing small wheel flares and removing the front bumper.

sixt9rsx33 05-26-2023 09:28 PM

Typical period mods!
