First Time Selling on Bring a Trailer - Any Tips?

7 Attachment(s)
I'm selling a 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV that's had a rotisserie restoration. I bought it as a running and driving project when I was stationed in Italy in 2015 and the restoration is finally done.

I did a lot of the work myself, but I have waaayyyy too much invested, so I'd like to cut my losses as much as possible. From what I can tell, BAT is my best bet, but I've always sold my cars on eBay, so I'd appreciate any tips that anyone can provide on selling on BAT.

I have signed up with BAT already; photos scheduled for tomorrow evening.

Thanks,

Scott

Be prepared for the diverse popcorn gallery of comments on Bat.

I find it valuable to be prepared with a pre-written write up of the car when the auction goes live. BAT only allows the basic introductory information to be inputted. Best thing you can do as a seller on bat is be highly communicative. You will get a lot of people who comment and don’t actually bid that’s part of what makes BAT “interesting”. Once in a while, you get a heckler for whatever reason who just makes a bunch of noise, so definitely have to have thick skin. If you have any questions that come up or requests for additional pictures, be prompt with your responses and be absolutely transparent. Good luck. .

Its a beauty. I would say answer all questions promptly, thoroughly, and don't get angry at the posters...

----If there's one thing I don't particularly care for about BaT, it's that the descriptions don't allow for superlatives. They don't seem to want you to say anything positive in their descriptions. Nothing is 100 percent perfect. It's just all exactly what whatever the simplest description is. Making your self available while the car is running would be the important thing to me!....Bill S

When replying to someone on BAT asking you a Q,make sure you spell their name correctly in order to notify them that you're answering specifically to them.Otherwise they may never see your response and think you're avoiding their Q.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the tip.

Hold firm on your reserve, they requested I lower my reserve a few days before the end of the auction, and I held firm. My car ended up sailing way past the reserve on the final day, so it didn't matter.

I plan to sell it with no reserve.

Thanks

Make sure you're posting pics and or videos daily. This sends an auto email to all watchers saying more pics/videos are uploaded to the auction. Make sure you're engaging with all buyers and answering questions. Buyers get comfortable with forthright sellers. Also, if it doesn't sell there is a new option for buyers to make an offer if it doesn't hit your reserve. This is a new feature which was void from the previous service. Previously only the highest bidder got an email with the seller contact info. Only draw back is that the buyer will need to pay a BaT fee... Good luck though! Cool car.

Look up one of Tim's (NAPA68) recent listings on BaT and use that as a guide on how to be a great transparent no BS seller. People seem to appreciate and gravitate to the straight talker (IE: better and higher bids) and despise an absent seller.

Good luck - appears to be a great car that should do well.

Just wondering, what would be a fair price to get for this car? It's a beautiful car but I don't know anything about them.

The market is a bit soft right now, but a very similar car sold on BAT for $115k a few weeks ago.

Yeah that's an understatement I just saw a $50,000 Syclone go for $37k a couple days ago. Good luck man hope you do good.
