Pic from 1965 and car is pretty butchered up.

I believe it was destroyed in a drag racing accident.

Thought someone would know but I have never seen it.
Was not hard to post this just in case it was not known. Well I still have not seen it and will not. Sure, looked like one of the 201 to me. Wonder if it was "Hosses"? |

Zach Reynolds from RJR tobacco had one of these in a ford and would run it on i40 in north carolina. I think the car is still around. |
Real Z16, but not "Hoss's car".
Somewhere I have pictures of it sitting at Chitwood's place after the wreck. I would be astonished if it rolled over 12 times. Once yes, twice maybe, but 12 I doubt. From the driver's side it did not look bad at all, just a little damage to the back end of the quarter. The other side is not shown well, but you can see that the A-pillar was laid down pretty bad on the psgr side. Back then it was just a car, and not worth fixing, and was reportedly sent to the scrap yard after pulling the drivetrain. In Florida if I recall correctly. |
----I believe Hoss's car was yellow. If I had to guess the T-car is white....Bill S

Thanks for the responses.
Figured you folks would know but it was a surprise to me. Lots of knowledge in the shadows here. THE reason we are here to learn. The "Hoss" bit was pure tounge in cheek. Remember reading about the can of worms over that. |
Good recent Turbonique video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7aQlbq...9uaXF1ZQ%3D%3D

Thanks All,
Video makes it look like a yellow car. |
The Turbonique Z16 was yellow.

So....as long as we're talking Z16s.....How many are know to exist today?.....Joe

I have 108 VIN's. 29 of those are from orphaned blocks or orphaned docs, with the cars either confirmed dead and gone, or MIA / whereabouts unknown.
So that is 79 known "cars" wearing original Z16 VINs. Some of those are dilapidated junkers (I've got one of those), and some have very little left now of what was originally a Z16. At least 14 of the 79 are widely known to be rebodied cars (and likely more are that are not widely known). So known legit Z16's with enough original body to not be called a rebody is 65 cars or less. |
Jeff, do you know of a Z16 in the Huntsville-Quality KY area? I was told that there is one behind a house in that area.

But I have not been willing to spend $6K to get the NCRS shipping reports on all the cars, so ... |

there was an interesting story on Malcolm Durham's Z-16
He was well known for his Strip-Blazer drag cars and was said to have bought a Z-16 to get the 396 for his Chevelle race car. He ran a 1964 Chevelle with a 1963 427 Z-11 engine. Malcolm updated his 64 to a 65 and put in the 396. He put a small block in the Z-16 and gave it to his wife. not sure it that is all correct but that was the story |
Malcolm also put air conditioning in the car and it had an A/C dash in it as well.
