1967 Corvette Roadster 327-300hp

While I patiently wait for the Nova to arrive, I'm staying busy in the shop with a couple of other irons in the fire.

One being this 67 roadster I just bought. Nice all born with numbers car, Goodwood Green with a black and white interior. M20 wide ratio 4 speed, 3.36 posi diff. 2 tops, AM/FM, P/S, P/B and telescopic wheel. The car originally came from West Virginia (as documented by it's POP). The car is reported to be a legit 20k mile car. The car retains it's original riveted ball joints and factory installed idler arm. It still retains all 5 original DC wheels.

There are some items I'll leave as is, others I'll get closer to stock. This is as I picked the car up......

My goal with this car is to offer up a REALLY nice driver that has good colors, good numbers, and good value. This should make the new owner proud at a local car show, or just cruising around. The sidepipes were reportedly added by the original owner (who was the son of the Chevrolet dealer). More on that later.

Here are some of the numbers on the car. I'm assuming the intake and carb were purchased during the restoration, as the dates are a bigger spread than normally found on something like a base motor car.

More to come........

napa68 01-03-2025 09:00 PM

The car has stainless calipers on it and all looked to be good. So, flush the brake fluid. Old fashion gravity bleed is in order here......

Ball joints as mentioned......

Original radiator......

The clock was inop, so I pulled that to send it out.
https://i.imgur.com/aDvTDkdh.jpg

Then my usual dive into the gauge cluster. Most every one of these car responds well to pulling the cluster, and cleaning the gauge faces along with the lenses.Soooooo......
this is how I go about that......

Pull the steering column and the drivers seat......

Suit up with the necessary equipment and tools......

Lay my fat ass in there and disconnect everything to pull the cluster. You can see the lenses are not that clear in these pics. I'll get everything cleaned up and reassembled. Quite honestly, it takes me about an hour to pull the column, seat, and cluster (assuming everything comes apart nicely. I'll rebulb everything and test the gauges for accuracy.

Added to the 67, I bought this 249 mile 30th anny Trans Am from it's original owner (about an hour north of me). I just love these cars.......

Thank you. These are the type of cars and processes I enjoy the most. Yes, I'll post it up here before marketing the car.

Tim...I am getting the feeling that you derive some masochistic pleasure from pulling the dashes on these cars??? :eek2:

Another fantastic find, and it will be a much improved car with your applied TLC!

----Nice job on the cluster, Tim!. Not a job anyone looks forward to, but the outcome, if done to your standard, is well worth the time and effort....Bill S

TimG 01-04-2025 09:44 PM

My blue '67 Corvette is the recipient of Tims nice gauge cluster work. Good job my friend.

I was thinking the same thing, Bill. Apparently his fat, uh, butt, doesn't hinder the process. I can't imagine me fumbling thru this under 4 hours, the first time.
I've been reading hints of this car for a while now and preparing myself to be jealous of, yet, another big block '67 and this car IS a very nice color and the combination works well together. Thankfully, as a base 327, it's not one I am coveting...;)

The column and seats area a cinch. The cluster itself isn't bad, either (not to say it's a pleasure fiddling with all the wires). 67's are a completely different column than the earlier cars, but not really more difficult.

I saw a guy repeatedly R&R the seats on an old Porsche to do similar work, and was complaining about what a pain it was getting to all the fasteners. He didn't realize the seats are designed to slide forward, all the way off the tracks, so they can be removed in 30 seconds.

The windshield frame in this car is beautiful

Pulled the radio to start cleaning on that. The volume knob was real "scratchy" so I cleaned that and some other contacts in the radio.

Finished up rebulbing the dash and installed the cluster. This always makes such a noticeable difference.

While waiting for what is (hopefully) the last load of parts, I got the chassis cleaned up and wiped down. I'm very pleased with how this came out.

This car here had a body off restoration that was completed about 20 years ago. In addition, the quality of the refinishing was well above average. I wiped the floor pans down with lacquer thinner, steam cleaned the rest, and then wiped everything down with Boshield T9.

napa68 01-14-2025 03:42 PM

Getting closer.........
Hopefully the clock shows up today so I can get the interior buttoned up

Looks amazing - I just ordered some Boeshield to try on the 409 chassis to see how it cleans up as it was body-off'd back in the 90's and needs a spruce up.

The car looks awesome, like all the work you do. Personally I think you priced it too low. Hell of a deal that is for sure.

Thanks for the kind words. History may dictate, I try to be fair with people. When selling a car (or anything else for that matter) you begin a relationship. It's those relationships that are good for long term business. The bonus to that philosophy........I've made some of my best friends from business. Besides, good cars are not that easy to come by. If I have a chance to get a car back that I used to own, I'm a happy guy.

That 4th gen sure brings back memories of my younger days. We abused the living $hitt out of those cars back in the mid 2000s. All my buddies had 4th gen Camaros, none were stock, all got put through the ringer. My one buddy had a 99 Z28 6 speed with a 150 shot of nitrous and headers. He must've swapped 3 rear ends in that car. 6000rpm launches at the track week after week. I remember he broke the trans at Irwindale one night and couldn't get the thing out of 4th gear. He drove it around in 4th gear for like two weeks hahaha. That car was fast!
