Big block Chevy Header I.D.

Bought these several years ago from a guy who thought they were for 67 Chevelle. Tried them on the Chevelle over the weekend and no go. I cannot find any numbers any where on them. Does anyone have any ideas what they might fit??

What size primary tube and collector?

3 1/2 collector. I will have to measure primaries tonight. All the newer hookers I have are marked with numbers or the Heart symbol. I do think these are really old though.

Don't know, but I've never seen the hooker medallion on the #8 pipe.

Hooker Super Competition
 
These are identical to a Facebook Marketplace add that I recently saw. HOOKER Super Competition #2111 headers that fit 1967-69 CAMARO and 68-74 NOVA applications with a BBC 396-454. I will try and send you the link so you can compare as well.

Pretty certain those are knockoffs of the 67-69 Camaro Hooker headers. I have the exact set that I use on my engine test stand.

In my, limited, experience with Hookers, the collector flange has been welded, not loose. And every, Chevelle, set I had, the right side hung lower. These seem to sit quite level. No experience with BB Camaro.
Being white, could they be an early transition of Appliance into Thorley ??

You’re right. I didn’t notice that. I only compared the tube routing and the block flange. Other than some additional holes in the block flange and the welded collector flange they do appear to be same tubes. Perhaps the difference between an actual pair of Hookers and the knockoffs as Tony eluded to??

Thanks for all the replies guys. The primaries are 1 7/8 on these. I have a 68 Camaro project sitting in the shop that is slated for a big block install so I will give them a shot on that project coming up. They do look really similar to the facebook headers.

I’ve always heard that you’ll run into fit issues on a 67 big block Camaro with power steering. The pipes will not clear the unit. Does Hooker or any other manufacturer make a set that will clear the power steering unit?

This is on a 68 Acadian but should be the same as 1st gen Camaro.
Hooker Super Competition will only fit manual steering.
The #5 pipe is right over the fluid ports on the box

Hooker Competition fit although I did massage the #1 pipe at the crossmember because there was next to zero clearance and the #5 at the box because it was aaaaalllllmost touching.

The problem becomes hooking up the power steering lines as there is no safe room to run them under. I made hard lines along the box and frame which come through the frame stand (flex end and fitting not yet added to the pressure line). I suppose you could go over the control arm and around but too messy for me.

I have Appliance headers on a 67 Camaro with power steering, no clearance issues at all.

Whoever holds the rights to those headers REALLY should make up 100 sets, as I think they would sell well in this restoration area.

My Camaro does have a big block. Appliance Industries is/was better known for their mag wheels but got into the header game in, I believe, 1970. 1970 is the earliest catalog I've seen. From what I understand, a guy named Bob Reagan was the header designer at Appliance. Bob worked for Jardine Headers in Garden Grove, CA. I don't know all the details but Bob ended up going to Appliance and did his thing over there. Appliance headers look similar to Jardine headers from the period with individual flanges. Appliance was located in Harbor City, CA, probably 15-20 miles from Jerry's shop in Garden Grove. I believe the later built headers were made in Mexico. Appliance quit making headers in the mid-late 70s, not sure if they sold to Thorley.... I thought Mr. Gasket bought them and rebranded them as Blackjack, even though Blackjack is nowhere near the quality of Appliance. My friend worked at Appliance in 1979 and the header division was no longer active.

Sounds like if I want some Appliance headers I’ll have to located some used ones. Chuck is there any part #’s on your headers?
I’ve wanted to put headers on my car for awhile but don’t like the idea of buying a new set then have to beat on them with hammer to make them fit.

CH4 is the Appliance Model Number for 67-69 Big Block Camaro. I just sold a set of pretty ratty used ones. Rare pieces these days.

Could be like an ole crazy cousin of mine, he got on one of his month long drunks and decided to bury some of his jars of money. When he finally sobered up he had forgot where he put it.His memory came back later on!

Yea, I found your old post, sorry, I could have helped but if you found a set, it's all good.
Did you have to mod anything? I had to clearance the CH24s on my '69 around the pass side lower a=arm and a couple other cuts and rewelds. I dry fitted them expecting this before I made them pretty.

I would have needed to "clearance" them if i were to use the stock starter. I used a Mini Starter and they fit without any issues. Only area of minor interference was the lower steering column bearing retaining clamp. The nut contacts the #3 header tube when the pipes get really hot. I need to dimple the tube there a little....
