any way to tell for sure ???? if it is a BB car whats a fair price ??? solid floors and trunk,little rust over rear wheels,f/g hood front clip is off car,has two rear 1/4's to go with car console interior is fair,car has been in storeage for 16 years, has a 454 to go seprate. what do you guy's think ???? |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Will;
Check the fuel line, speedo cable exit hole in the firewall, engine perches on subframe, rad support, heater core cover, rear frame rails for dual exhaust reinforc. plates, tach redline if it's a tach dash, etc..... What's the trim tag data? Color, interior codes etc... paperwork? Hard to put a price on it, they aren't that rare - total production of 396/375 cars is 9,900 +/-, but they are desirable. The correct engine items can be very expensive, the carb, dist, alt. smog, etc... is in the thousands!! |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
I haven't seen the car yet ,maybe tonite.
I doubt it has any paper work,if I can I'll get a few pic's too. maybe this will be a car I'll get thats not just plain jane! |

Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Hi will:
I keep forgetting to bring in my paint chart to decipher what color 79 is, but here goes on the rest of the codes. the 733 is believe is custom black bench seat interior, the 02A is the build date of 1st week of Feb, the A means that the remainder of the interior is black - ie; headliner, door panels, kick panels etc... - the 3 most likely means that the car has 3 out of the 3 possible exterior decorations which are: drip rail moldings, door frame moldings, and body side moldings. The car is not a vinyl top car, however it is possible to have drip rail moldings without a vinyl top. Let me know if it has rocker moldings, ie; exterior decor option. Hope this helps a little. If the car comes with a pair of NOS 1/4's, buy the car for the 1/4's and sell em to me |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Based on what I have: Code 79 = Rallye Green.
|
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
MikeA corrected me;
733 is black vinyl buckets, 732 is custom bench seat. 79 is indeed rallye green for '69, I'm going off of my '70 Nova charts, and I believe the interior codes are the same for the '69 Novas. I like rallye green, buy the whole car and sell it to me |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
maybe we could swap for that old yenko thing you have
did you find any more on the orange centerville car???? |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
I'm sure we could work something out for that old Yenko bucket of bolts
I tried your link to some pics, but it didn't work?? |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????

http://community.webshots.com/user/fastorange67 if these work you you tell if it's a 375hp car,also are the build sheet on the gas tanks on novas too,will this tell anything ??? thanks! |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Any idea where the Green 69 SS Nova came from. Does the person also have a Silver SS to match it. I know of a pair that was bought new in Freeport Illinois and sold as a pair to a person out east about 20 years ago. Would love to find the Silver SS. Had Deuces Wild painted under (4) Deuce palying cards spread out as a poker hand. Now that car was FINE. Both were BBC cars.

Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
will;
I personally can't tell that this car is a BB, or L78 if it is a BB. I don't know exactly how to determine if those engine perches are for SB or BB. It does have all three of the body decorations like the trim tag shows, and is rallye green. I'm not sure what someone was trying to do with the drivers side 1/4 panel? |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
he was cutting the rust out to see if the inner panel was rusted ,its not.
Iam almost positive I've seen the dueces wild car before ,I'll keep an eye out for it! |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Great, the pictures work now. I don't see enough to tell for sure that it is a big block car, but the signs do look good. The single fuel line tells you that it is not an SS350 or a 396-350 car. It could be a 396-375 car though. Where is the radiator support? There are lots of clues on it. If you can get into it, I would pull the back seat out to look for a broadcast sheet. You need to take some good wire cutters to get the sheet out without shredding it.

Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
are the GM 1/4'S the only ones that go up into the sail panel ????
|
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Will
The GM 1/4's are the only ones that go all the way up the sail panel to the lead line. Novas do not have any build sheets or broadcast sheets above the gas tank, in fact, I don't know that I've ever seen a Nova build sheet. Like bbdon said, pull out the bottom of the back seat and check the underside corners for one of the broadcast sheets. If you find it, look for code Z26 for SS, and L78 for the 396/375hp. If you find a sheet, you should also find code B84 for body side molding, B90 for door frame molding, and maybe C07 for the drip rail moldings. |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Will, dii makes a quater that goes into the sail about 6in short of the lead line.Goodmarks did on the early stampings, but now are cut off at the bottom of the sail. Ken

Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
what can I look for on the rad. support???
|
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Look for a larger radiator opening. The radiator for a big block car is wider, and so is the opening for it. It is about two inches larger to the driver's side. The bottom part is cut differently to allow the radiator to sit a little lower, and there are holes drilled on top to retain the rubber flap. There is also a nut welded to the support to hold one of the side brackets for the radiator. Look for it from the front, below the radiator cap.

Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
I am going to give him a deposit tonite,I'll problably take some of the loose parts with me and pick up every thing else when he gets it together,friday or saterday.
does anyone have a copy of a broad cast sheet they can post so I know what Iam looking for ??? thanks! Will |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Will;
How did the deposit go?? What parts did you grab? |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
well he dropped by my work on his way home ,asked me if I definitly wanted the car ,I said yes I'll give you a deposit on it now and the rest when pick it up ,he said no need for a deposit your word is good enough,I'll get it together and you can pick it up at the first of the week as Iam on vacation next week.I told him that would be fine.
I need the time to find a place to put it. not very often you find someone who thinks a word/handshake is better then a piece of paper. Will |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Will;
I see you posted this on the Nova site!! What has convinced you that this is a big block, and a 375hp one? QUOTE: "I am conviced that this is a 375 hp car,I bought the car and it is now at my garage,it did have the GM 1/4's,and it only has 61000 miles on it. the I bought it from told me he would call the previuos owner and see if he can track down the orginal block. the car was found in a field in 1980 with a blown motor and 23600 miles on the clock,it was bought and a new 396 dropped in and driven for a few years then sold to some guy's that drag raced it for a few years,they started striping the car for fiberglass and a tubb job,but lost interest before cutting anything.thats when this guy bought it in 84-85,it's been in the garage ever since. it's nice to see it on its way to a restore again and not heading to the crusher." END QUOTE. BTW; After studying the pics on your site, I see the car still has the trans crossmember in it. Check the underside where the bolts go through to the transmount, and let me know whether there are two oval openings or one square opening. |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
I found only one build sheet in a 68-70 nova and it was in my 427 gibb-harrell car. this was in the right corner of the top part of the back seat. Kim Howie

Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Kim;
Was it a build sheet or a body broadcast sheet? I'd love to see a Nova build sheet, I thought they pulled them all out of the cars at Willow Run!! (Can I have a copy??) |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
JJ's 396/375 horse 69 Nova came with a sheet. What's the difference between a build sheet and broadcast sheet. I know what my Chevelle build sheet looks like, but the Nova's is smaller, but lists all the options. Is this what you call a broadcast sheet????
Peter |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Pete;
Yes, the body broadcast sheet is approx. 5" x 8", and lists the frame sequence #, build date, body #, interior code, and then in the option boxes it lists some of the options - but not all of them. I think those options that relate to the body are listed, you usually don't find things like J50/J51 for power disc brakes, but will find N10 for dual exhaust (extra plate on frame rail), B84 for side moldings, M20 for the trans (different exit hole in firewall for speedo cable), and sometimes L78 for the engine - I haven't seen small block codes though. I am starting to think that there were different broadcast sheets for different areas of the car, but that is just a theory because when we find multiple broadcast sheets in a given car they have always matched each other. I'm always looking for more! |

Sample of nova 69 Broadcast sheet found under the rear seat.

Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????

Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Marlin
Did you get my Email? |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
the cross member has two oval holes,but this is problably not the orginal has i've been told the car last had an auto in it for the drags.
the previous owner told me it was a 375 car he has know the car since his friend accired it in 1980 . does have the frame plate also just pulled a slip of paper from the rear seat about 3X7 |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Will;
The two small holes in the crossmember indicate a small block, regardless of trans type, (the car is definitely a manual shift car). If a prior owner installed an a/t trans, I would assume that it was a TH350 since a TH400 requires a completely different crossmember (more of a 'tubular' design). Once you get the broadcast sheet out of the seat, 1st make sure that the body number on the sheet matches the last six digits of the body number on the trim tag. I have seen several instances where the wrong broadcast sheet is found in the original seats, although this probably indicates that the line worker was following the codes on the sheet taped to the firewall, installed the correct seat type into the car, but did not select the seat specific identified to that particular car. Then look at the various option boxes, it will say L34 for 396/350hp, or L78 for the 375hp version if it was a big block. If the car was a small block, there will most likely be no engine code designation on the sheet. If the car was a console car, there will be a code on the sheet (for the tunnel piercings), you should definitely have the B80, B84, B90, (I think), and especially Z26 for the Super Sport option, A51 for the buckets, M20 for the 4speed, N10 for the dual exhaust, and probably some more since the car seems to be nicely optioned. Let us know the codes, and we'll let you know what they mean. Even if it turns out not to be a big block car, it would be a nice car when done right. |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
the paper I found didn't look like the above attachment,this looks more like a tag type as it is thinker than normal paper,I didn't see anyother paper under the seat.
I have a line on the orginal block,it is said that it was sleeved and put into a camaro for dragracing.ihaven't talked to the man that pulled it from the car.Iam thinking of a title search ,but that requires me to retitle the car in my name yet I am not sure I want to keep it. althought It does remind me of the really green 69 SS 350 nova I had at 18. oh well time will tell!!! it has the large opening core support,3/8 fuel line,exhaust plate,and the speedo comes out next to the dist.(is that indcation of big block?) I hope to be able to locate some previous owner has the car is supposed to be a local car. Will |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
also the date typed on the card was 6-27-70,I'll have to check the other numbers to make sure it is for this car.
|
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Will;
I believe the paper you found will show the actual assy date, the trim code, the body sequence number, and maybe one other number. I have seen these 'cards' but don't know what they were used for. The speedo cable exit hole is only indicative of the trans type, not engine size. To my knowledge, you don't have to retitle the car to do a title search in MD. I have done searches for cars that I have never owned |
Re: 69 SS nova big block car ????
Marlin,
I have seen three different type of sheets. 1 - The Fisher Body sheet used during body assembly. Mostly found under the rear seat which was installed before it left Fisher. Included mostly RPO's that required Fisher to pierce the body or weld on extra parts (moulding, rear swaybar, floor shifter, defroster). 2- The CHASSIS BROADCAST COPY. Which had codes for Engine compartment, drivetrain, and suspension. 3- The BODY BROADCAST COPY. Which had codes for anything that was in (radio, lights, cluster, wiring, floormats), poked thru the body to the drivers compartment (Speedo cable, master cylinder, steering column, antenna), or was applied to the body (tire pressure decal, emissions decal, paint stripe, moulding). Some codes are on both Body and Chassis sheets. The 70 Nova Broadcast Copy's are done on older systems that the 70 Chevelle and Camaro's. Willow Run switched to the same system a few years later.
