1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
I just wanted to see if there is any interest in a Yenko Stinger Vega that is seting out back in the weeds. It's a basket case. No motor or trans,it's rusted out,and a raccoon tore-up the interior. It does have a clear title. 3 of the Yenko Vegas ended up in Monroe WI. The green one disappeared, the yellow one was crushed, and the red one is sitting out back rotting away.

Please email me the vin. Thanks.

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Does it have the Yenko stripes still on it? Can you take pictures of it? Save it - don't let it go to the crusher!
|
Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
I lived in Monroe for several years and never heard of one being there, let alone three. Suprising, since Monroe is so small. Can you contact me? I would like to talk to you about the car. 319-273-8900 or 319-233-3462. I am interested in getting info.
|
Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Hi Joe, It still has the strips on it and other than one of the rear Quarters the paint is still factory. The vega belongs to a friend of mine who is in the AirForce. He told me to get rid of it because it isn't restorable any more. We both have some good pictures of it when it was in its prime if you're interested. Mike

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
MRBeef,
Can you contact me? 319-233-3462 or 319-273-8900. Ask for Clint. |
Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Mrbeef, that would be great if you can post the pictures or email them to me and I can post them. Do you know what year the car is 71 72 73? I hope someone will give it a good home.
|
Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Hi JoeC, I think the car is a 71,but I'll check the title. The VIN number on the car is 14177 IU325197. I'll check that on the title, too. I think I can get my hands on a digital camera, and e-mail some current pictures so you can see the condition of the car. Mike

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Hi Mr70,I'm not sure what the milage was ,but GM repaced the engine. They had trouble with some of the 4cyl engines in the Vegas. After the second 4cyl started to have problems we were going to put a V-8 in it. But Nick ( the owner ) went to Saudi with the AirForce and it never got finished. It's been sitting out back ever since. I can look but I think the trans went with the old engine. The MrBeef is because I raise beef cattle for a living. Mike

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
The car sounds interesting. If anyone needs some "Vega" parts, let me know, a friend of mine has several Vega's.

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Hi, I just wanted to let everyone that is interested know that I found a good home for the Yenko Stinger (Vega). That was my main goal. I'm still going to get some of the pictures of the car so they can put them here on the Yenko site or e-mail them to any one that wants them. Mike

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
MrBeef, I know of a couple Vegas near South Wayne and had wondered if the red one I didn't stop to look at in a field was the one you were talking about. What town did the car end up going to? I'm 40 miles from Monroe.

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
A GREEN one disappeared??? Try bar hopping down in Freeport and find an owner by the name of Gary and if its the one I am thinking of it might be next to his 67 Vette. He was in Monroe for some years before he moved back to Freeport
Also a Fathom Green 69 Yenko Camaro down that way also |
Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Hi TechNova, I live near Monticello. The Vega went to the Clary's that run this web site. Mike

I had the pleasure of meeting mike, tom and his friend as they came to pick up the vega. A great piece of history. Everyone left with a smile on there face, except one possum who lost his place to live. I will try to post a pic or two tonight. Roger

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Arrived home at 5am with the Stinger. Will need a lot of work, but a very interesting piece. Should shed a lot of light on how Yenko equipped/painted the cars, as this one is 95% original. Stripes, emblems, blacked out areas, rear spoiler, etc all intact. And numerous pics of the car in its early years. Am looking forward to seeing how this car compares to the many ads, pics, paperwork etc I have from Yenko Chevrolet.
Many thanks to Mrbeef for allowing the sYc to aquire such a unique car. Tom |

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Tom, does this one have the original motor with the turbo charger option? Schonye
|
Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
I like the "U-Haul" style trailer hitch, I had one of those on my '67 RS/SS convertible. The original owner hauled her stuff from Indiana to California with it when she left her hubby..

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Schonye; the car is missing its original motor/trans. And, by looking at the car and talking to mike, it was not a turbo car. Also, becasue of federal regulations, Yenko could not sell cars with the turbo unit installed, it had to be ordered seperate. And, according to documents I have, I am not for sure if Yenko even sold any kits. I do have turbo unit syc-001, which appears to be the only Vega unit there is. It is complete with instructions. Just need to decide if I will put on, or maybe just display with the car. Of course right now I am along ways from that point.

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Tom, at least two Yenko Stinger Turbo Vegas were built. Both were road tested in a magazine. One was a prototype. Yenko had "Turbo" decals made and put them on the car after the word "Yenko" on the Q panel. I have one of the original decals. The guy who road tested the car was a salesman at Hory Chevrolet.
|
Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Joe; It is possible more then two (prototypes) may have been built, as I have pictures of several different versions. they differ in which turbo was used, Rajay vs Schwitzer, and also in the look of the Yenko Turbo Stinger Stripe. There was more then one variation of the stripe. When I said none were built, I was meaning for sale to the public. Not only was Yenko having trouble with the EPA, but also with Swititzer, who was to supply the units.

Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Hello all Yenko fans.
I'm Nick Stokes the previous owner of the Vega Yenko Stinger that my friend Mike, AKA MrBeef gave to a good home. I was the second owner of this car and purchased it sometime around 1975. I paid the previous owner $1800 and drove it through high school until I graduated in 1976 and joined the Air Force. After basic training I returned home and brought the car to Wichita Falls TX, then to Luke AFB in Phoenix AZ (KDKB bumper sticker) and then finally to Shaw AFB in South Carolina. When my orders to Germany arrived in 1980, Mike and another friend came to trailer it back to WI. It has set there for the last 20 years. My military life, now in its 27th year, did not allow me to keep a stable of cars, although I've tried. My hobby now is classic Volkswagens and I repair classic auto radios for these and other cars. I know this was one of three Yenko Vegas around Monroe Wisconsin in the mid-seventies. A green, yellow and my red one. To my knowledge it was purchased from Thorstead Chevrolet in Madison WI in 1971. I'm now stationed at Langley AFB in Virginia. I'll try to find some pictures and post if anyone is interested. Feel free to email me or ask questions here and I'll try to answer. Cheers, Nick |
Re: 1 of 67 Yenko Stinger (Vega)
Welcome Nick....I'm sure everyone would like to see any pics you have....could you ever imagine an old car you used to drag around the country would cause so much conversation 20+ years later ??!!
