1976 Monza Mirage
Does anyone here know anything about the 1976 Monza Mirage?
I have found one and it's pretty unique. it has a large spoiler on the rear and the fenders and quarter panels have body extensions like a old Can-Am car. The car is white with a big Red, White & Blue stripe on the roof, hood, deck lid and the same but smaller pinstripe on the lower rocker panels. this car is in pretty bad shape but complete. Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
Yes! when it was new it did.
It's in poor shape now. Any idea how rare, or what's it worth? Thanks |
Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
I really don't know how rare of a car this would be. How much is the seller asking for it? Is it all original?

Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
I had a factory small block 75 Monza when I was a kid. Only a two barrel carb, but was lots of fun when you found an empty parking lot, locked the steering left or right then-you could do unlimited tire spinning.
Fun car. I never put any modifications on it, and as I recall the drivers side spark plug was impossible to change without partially removing the engine. The Small block in this car was a real GM shoe-horn job. Very Tight. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
Wasn't California the only state to get the Small block Monza with a 350? Somthing to do with the other motors failing emissions. Go figure!

Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
The car is all original but will need repair to or a pass. side rear quarter and some repair to the pass. side rear body extention as well.
The seller is movated probally less than $1,500.00 |
Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
There is one pictured on back of one of the Motion catologs but not sure why its there.

Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
Mine was equipped with the 262 V8. As I recall it made a 110 hp. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

HI all. You should also check out http://www.v8monza.com/
and http://monza.homestead.com/monza.html I'm pretty sure the Monza Mirage was only offered in 1977. They are very rare and alot of fun. If you do get it and restore it, check out http://www.geocities.com/miragestripes/ for stripes. Ron |
Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
I'm surprised that as often as I frequent this site that I missed this post. Anyway, I've owned 9 Monza's in the last 20 years so I know a little bit about them (still have my '78 Monza Spyder I've had for 18 of those years, thus the login name) Anyway, the Mirage was only made in 1977 and there were only around 4000 produced. Not all were V8's, but I would say 98% of them were, although I've seen two 4-bangers over the years. As for value, it really depends on how bad the car is. I've seen some in bad shape not even sell for $400, let alone $1500, so it just really depends. I happen to have an extra set of Mirage fender flares for sale in my garage too (sans the front spoiler). Ron Lee (above) has, imo, the nicest Mirage in existence and it was a pleasant surprise to see him post here on this site. They're fun cars!

Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
Thanks for the info.
I'm really a '69 Z/28 and a '77 930 Porsche kind of guy. I just ran across this car and it's in pretty bad shape but if you loved these cars as you and Ron do it's worth fixing. If you or anyone else is interested in the car. I can get with the owner about a firm price and get some pics posted. It is a V8 and the car is in original unmolested other than the body damage on pass. side rear. |
Re: 1976 Monza Mirage
A price and pics would be great. Thanks, Ron
