Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
This is cool https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif
I purchased this car from the original owner, Gerald Walker from Three Springs, PA, which is only 40 miles from my home in Honey Grove, PA. Gerald purchased the car on Dec. 26th, 1968 from Stoudnour Chevrolet in Saxton, PA. This had to be his best X-mas ever, and eventually turning into my best X-mas, as I bought the car in Dec. of 2003. I first found out about this car one day around 1990 when I took my 69 RS/Z to get inspected and the guy at the garage told me he knows of a 1 owner 69 Z/28, so I got his phone # and evntually going to look at the car to find out it was a RS/SS L78. My only mistake was not buying the car then, thinking that was way too much money for the car, look where we are at today. Gerald special ordered this car, and when it came in the dealer's son decided he wanted the car instead, so Gerald ended up giving another $500 more for the car just to get it, and told the owner he would never buy another car from him. The car has 12,192 original miles and has Vintage Camaro Certification in the Legend Class at the 2004 GM Natl's at Carlisle, with special thanks going out to Steve Shauger for all his help. Options Include: Rally Sport Endura Bumper 396-375 M-21 4.10 posi Tach and Console Gauges Mint Black Standard Int. I have the original Uniroyal Tigerpaws that came with the car, and when I bought it, it had a set of Thrush sidepipes on it that Gerald put on in 1970 when the transverse muffler would not pass inspection. The only other things I have done to the car is ad a set of Goodyear Custom Widetreads, so I can drive it, and I spent 50 hours cleaning the undercoating from the underside of the car, (well worth the effort). Thanks http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20Camaro/7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20Camaro/6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20Camaro/2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20Camaro/3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20Camaro/1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20Camaro/4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20Camaro/5.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/121543-6-12-04098.jpg |
Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Very good looking 69 Camaro SS/RS (L78) You just got to love Garnet Red on 69's, that is the same color as my 69Z, but mine is suppose to have a black vinyl top and black stripes, not white. Will change that in due time. Also love the COPO caps and XT's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Jeff, all I can say is wow. Those who attended the Camaro National were treated to one of the nicest survivor car anywhere. The Vintage Camaro Certification team had a real treat inspecting and certifying this car...a real jewel. I thank you for sharing your car with all of us. We learn so much from these cars and they represent the standards by which the restored concours cars are judged.

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Beautiful!!!
Cars like this are the reason I get very upset when people take far too much liberty in using the word "Survivor". This car is a perfect example of one deserving of the term. |
Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
I doubt even Bloomington Gold would seek legal retrabuation for calling this Car a "Survivor".
Very Nice Car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Bob, do you have any pictures of the L78's backend? Would love to see that blacked-out tailpan. Thanks!

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Saw the car at Carlisle last year, and can see it is one of the coolest Camaros I have ever seen... definitely in my personal "top 10". Killer piece. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Jeff, did he tell you the story of why the miles are so low? It seems there is always a great story behind a low mile car.
Was it a spare car, did he just get tired of driving it? I have an 18,000 mile '67 big block and the guy just loved the car so much he vowed to never drive it in the rain. |
Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
I had the pleasure of crawling under it while it was being judged at Carlisle. If you think its nice topside you should see it underneath. Great car Jeff.

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Hi Don,
The underside of your car was awesome as well, especially the floors. |

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Another member wrote me saying that Boones SS has "CL" coded wheels. I'm reading and thinking that "CL" 14x7 wheels are 1970-1971 Camaro/Nova SS wheels. Would have the build date on Jeff's car have been so LATE , to have received "1970" coded wheels ?????
Chuck S STILL looking for CL wheels without cutting off any body parts |
Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Short spoiler would indicate a early car to me.
|
Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
The car has XT coded wheels if my memory is correct. Also the car had the spoilers added at the dealership or soon after it was purchased. The car was built 12B, so if it was factory installed, it would have had a small spoiler.

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Thanks guys for all your great comments. I'll try to answer some of the questions asked. When Gerald bought the car he used it to go to work for awhile....speculation is that his sister helped him get the car, and she was killed in a car accident in a 57 Chevy in the early 70's....I really never asked Gerald, but local people think that is why he quit driving the car. The car does have the CL wheels on right now with the Goodyears....The original XT wheels with the Tigerpaws are stored away in my basement. The 74 Z/28 found a new home in Florida. Thanks again guys, Jeff B.

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
I think Chuck S just moistened his pants hearing the CL thing !!! Very Very neat car Jeff....and thanks for your patience...the weeks crawl by when you are waiting to see your car come up !! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Cool car, great find and nice story. 50 hrs to clean off undercoating doesn't sound that bad. What's the story on that '74 Z? Do you have any pics?
Paul |
Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
I sold the 74 Z/28 with 14k org miles in April 0f 2004 to a guy in Florida who flew up to the Spring Carlisle meet and drove the car home with no trouble....he said the more miles he put on it the better it ran.

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Bob, Thanks for the good laugh.....Now that I've showered and changed my shorts...........
I really would like to find some CL wheels for my 01C L-78 70'SS Camaro. Having that early of build date, I'm not holding out much reality of ever finding dated wheels. Sure would like to have Jeff's CL wheels for my 70 AND Goodyear Tires for my 69 Camaro. Chuck |
Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Chuck, I will trade or sell the CL wheels if I had another set of XT wheels to put on.

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
Well Chuck....looks like you need to find a proper set of XT's for the man....and if you tell me the CL's aren't the right date code or something we are going to have a doctor come and check you... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

Re: Jeff Boone's Garnet L78 Camaro SURVIVOR !
I was wondering if I could get a couple more shots from the engine bay to use as a reference for restoring my 69 SS L78. Some pics from underneath the car would be nice also. Could this car be one of the lowest original mile 69 L78 Camaros in existence? Mine is also a low mile (20,000) car. Thanks,
Paul |
