Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack

Didnt know what it was when my buddy told me. thats why i posted it here. I figured it was a common car but the 440 6 pack sounded like something to check out. Were there any Hemi cars in 72? Just curious..that ended in 71 correct? |
Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
No 72 hemis. Chrysler was working on a ball-stud rocker mount, cylinder head that would have been the next generation of the hemi but it was cancelled during development. The cylinder head was more like a big block chevy than a hemi.

Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
There were two that snuck out the doors with the 440 Six Pack.

The reason that they "snuck out" is that the engine was not emissions certified for 1972 and it's existance as a production vehicle was something of a legal violation. They were built during initial drivetrain testing/pilot vehicle production and then sold off as used cars or crushed. |
Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
I read in Mopar Collectors Guide , 2 roadrunners were produced and they have heard of 2 others ( not confirmed )
Pacrcar Go check out that car and look for a V in the V I N . |

Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
"V" would be the correct code for a 440 Six Pack. "U" would be a 440 Magnum 4 barrel.
|
Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
Yep , Sam said he was going to look at a 72 440+6 GTX, code would be V for 6 pac.
To date 2 ralley chargers and 2 roadrunners have been documented ,but no 72 GTX , U code for 440 4 bbl and V code for six pack. You have got to have a look at the car though., Half the fun in the car hobby is the car chase, good luck Sam. pacecar |
Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
The only Road Runners with 440s were GTXs, so the RRs that have been found are GTXs. One of them is currently a race car in IL.

Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
I stand corrected. Good info.
|
Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
One very expensive race in IL.

Sold to the public, but obviously not many before the engine was dropped |
Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
Hey Larry, altho most round here are bowtie-centric, we have recently (I mean Charley has) added a Mopar section and would love to have you stick around and participate. We have a number of closet Mopar fans. I have always been a Mopar fan and have a '62 S/S Savoy raced in the Chicago area.

Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
Hey, here's some trivia for you folks - this was part of a discussion on Moparts earlier this year:
The 1972 V-code was only available with an automatic! |
Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
There are lots of cool Mopars. Welcome Larry ! |
Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
Welcome Larry and thanks for the post on the cool Mopar. I always thought the 440-6 ended with model year 71 production.
|
Re: 72 roadrunner gxt 440 6 six pack
They were going to release the 6 pack in 72 but it did not meet the new emission laws for 72 so they had to pull it. A few slipped out very early in production.
