Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
That is one mean HOMBRE! Now, can you get a console-less shifter (pistol grip of course)? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
Sure hope they get the exhaust note tone right for the big Hemi. If they do, it will send it right up over the top! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...enger002-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...llenger003.jpg |
Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
That car is so cool it's scary... Because I'm a "Chevy guy" am I supposed to have to think the new camaro concept is cooler than this, because it sure isn't.

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
Wonder if we will get a convertible version. I love it!!

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
It's not just Chevy that doesn't get it, it's GM across the board. If they were to tap the baby boomer market with a 1st gen Retro Trans Am and Camaro , they would be bigger than both the Challenger and Mustang combined. But they are not that smart. So a Challenger it is.

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
I"m sorry but I can't go along with the masses on this car at all...I just don't like it.
It looks like something from a tightly budgeted 1980's Sci-Fi movie, trying to imitate something out of StarWars. MadMax move over.. |
Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
The lines of the car are very true to the 70 Challener, plus a Hemi and a pistol grip. Just what us 50 year old kid's want
|
Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
I think that car is beautiful. Period.

Do you like 70/71 Challengers? Cause they did a heck of a job preserving that style. I love it cause the built in a lot of the original lines. Hood, body line down the side, mirrors, quarter windows.... |

If Kowalski was driving this,it would've made more sense to me why he crashed at the end.

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
The actual car that hit the bulldozers at the end was a white 67 or 68 Camaro. (I can't tell if it had vent windows or not.)
I think it said something like "yinka" or "yonki" or "jenka" on the tail panel.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
The 2007 Shelby SVT GT 500 is projected to have approx. 475HP and weigh in at 3800 pounds. I hope Dodge can either increase the HP on their concept Challenger or reduce weight to compensate for the HP difference in the current HEMI at 425 HP or stoplights are not going to be any fun when a Shelby SVT cobra pulls up next to us in our new Challenger?
|
Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
Ok, guys in the movie "Vanishing Point" circa:1971 starring Barry Newman a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T was used thoughout the movie. At the end was a 1967 Camaro which attempted to plow it's way though Bulldozers. ---- Gee, wonder where that Camaro is, maybe buried somewhere in the desert with an Old Porsche.

[/ QUOTE ] I'd be surprised if they up the ante anytime soon on the 425 HP Hemi (but it would surely be nice). I doubt they intend to go head to head with the Shelby right off the bat. The Shelby is a special, "limited" production car and has significantly bumped up HP over the "regular" production V-8 'stangs and will be released a couple of years after the 'stangs redesign. Perhaps after a year or two of blazing sales, Walter P. and company will release a special edition souped up hemi option (R/T SC - supercharged?) for the Challenger which will put the hurt on FOMOCO. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif In any case, the winner will be John Q. Public as a result of the good ol' American business competition factor. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif so, can I infer from this, .... "pulls up next to us in our new Challenger?" that you will be putting one of these in your stable? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
Sam,
I am buying one to park next to my 70 HEMI Challenger if they bump up the HP from 425? I really like the look and the whole concept behind the new car. Hopefully they will learn from Ford's mistakes and keep the weight under 3500 pounds? I really can't imagine Dodge not bumping the HP up to 475 to compete with the Mustang. From my Viper experience Dodge is pretty aware of the market place and competitive I don't think they will disapoint the Challenger crowd. Unlike the GM executives Dodge seems to have some real car guys in Detroit. Dodge already has plans for a 700 HP 2007/2008 Viper. The engine is already on the dyno and in testing and easily reaches over 700HP. The current Viper will be built through next August 2006. Then the CAAP plant is closing until January 2007 to re-tool for the fourth generation Viper. Production for the new 700 HP fourth generation Viper is set to begin in January 2007 for delivery in the spring and summer. Just imagine 700 HP off the showroom floor? |
Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
I will be buying one also to park alongside mine. I will probably wait for year 2 or 3 because you know that's when the "bad to the bones" version will be out! Patrick

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
There's a scene in that movie when the desert hippie guy throws a Mini-Bike with the red light on top of the car and says "this is your pit pass out of here". What kind of Mini-Bike was that?
I was in the 8th grade and took a bus to see that movie. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Maybe it said Yenko |

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
I believe that Dodge will flood the market with the 425hp Hemi, much like they did with the smaller HP Hemi in the Trucks when they were introduced. Once they have their hooks in ya, they will bring a more powerful Hemi into the picture. ----smart marketing to keep the customer coming back to spend more $$$$$. -- Just like the computer companies have been doing to the market - gradual increases in speed and memory retention to keep you buying.

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
Let's hope that when Dodge has to compromise the design to get it built they don't make it a four-door like the Charger. I think they really blew it when they had to do the Charger with four doors. "Charger" and "four doors" just don't compute.

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
Rumors about the 392 CI / 510 HP Hemi race engine as a future option for the Chally! read more....
"There are rumors that the new 392 Hemi crate engine, designed for racing, will go along with the new Dodge Challenger body. The 392 is apparently a racing-only engine in current form, not a production design, but a lower-power version may well be made for production and appear in the Challenger. The Challenger concept car to be shown at NAIAS (Detroit, January 2006; the Camaro will also be shown) uses, not surprisingly, the SRT-8 6.1 liter engine — but, unlike any current production LX car, it also has a six-speed manual gearbox. (Automobile suggested that the 510 horsepower 6.4 liter 392 Hemi might be used.) There are issues with the 392 - most notably the question of what untrained drivers will do with that much power. A fairly large number of Vipers left this world unexpectedly." NOW WE'RE TALKING! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif |

Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
Can you imagine how cool that would look in a convertible?
Sam do you have the rest of the article? I see in the article there is a question as to where it would be built? I drove by the Belevidere, Il assembly plant this week. The pair of "showpiece" Neons guarding the main entrance like they have had for several years are gone. In their place are 2 big blue cubes with question marks on them. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif I should have taken a picture. |

Ha! It even smokes like an old Mopar!! I wonder if it will have the same draggy starter, too??!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif |
Re: Challenger Concept looking better!!
"Draggy"? That horse whinny is classic! You can tell a Mopar is startin' a country mile away. That sound still echoes in my brain from when I was a little kid.
