Racing Fuel Prices
I never thought the day would come that I'd think the racing fuel prices were actually reasonable. I just paid $5.10 a gallon for VP 108 Octane in a 5 gallon can. When regular pump gas is over $3 a gallon, it's amazing that the racing stuff hasn't gone too insane as of yet.
I poured it all in the tank of the hemi Charger and then started her up. I could actually tell when the good gas made it to the carb. The idle just smoooothed out. I'd swear I heard the car make that "mmmmmmmm" yummy sound. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |

Re: Racing Fuel Prices
Get that Jack Podell additive. I buy it by the case and never had a problem with anything. Comes in 1 qt. plastic bottles. MAX LEAD 2000. Never had the carb apart in 4 years either. No gasket problems and no intake staining. Proper mixture gets you 103 octane. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: Racing Fuel Prices
ALss, they're just down the road from you on route 202 in Flemington, NJ. Here's where I got it: http://www.burgersmotorcycles.com/
The VP Red 104 octane leaded is $49.98 for a 5 gallon can and the VP C12 108 octane leaded is $55.98 per 5 gallon can. |
That's sad.
|
I sometimes buy from a major petroleum supplier about 30 minutes from me and buy Sunoco 110 and it is $20 per gallon!! Double what it was in 2020. Just an hour away it is only $9 a gallon. Now THAT is sad!
|
Turbo Blue is about $9/gal near me, so I guess I should count my blessings!
|
I'm at $10/gallon for Renegade 110.

Been using 100LL in the L88. Plugs look great with 40 degrees of timing locked.........and it's only $5.67 gal!
|
Turbo blue @ the pump for $10, 5 gallon can of vp 110 is $100

I have been getting Sunoco 110 leaded at the tracks I road race at for between $13-14 a gallon. Pre covid it was $8.50-10.50. At MSR Houston (where they cater to a lot of track day wonders) they started selling it by the litre. I guess it makes them feel better

C11, for my Stocker, is now $250 Cdn. for 5 gallons.
Before the "plague" it was $150. |
fuel prices...
I haven't bought any in awhile...local dealer doesn't have any...last time I got some av gas.
But, home heating oil is a killer...truck was here this week...$3.79/gallon. Time to fire up the wood stove... |
Central Ky.
Just filled my 02 Camaro with Shell 93 Oct. @ $4.44 a gallon. Been looking for some gas without Ethanol for the grandkids dirt bikes and go carts. None to be found in my area.
|
A friend just bought 5 gals of race fuel for his sons dirt bike (Ontario Canada) and paid $202.
Ethanol free gas can't be found at the pumps here anymore. The pumps used to have stickers stating the mix but the stickers are now gone. I did some Googling and yup, no longer available in Ontario Canada. Apparently you 'might' be able to find some at a marina. |
Over $40 a gallon and paid it???! Am I understanding correctly?

That is an additional benefit to AvGas, the stuff lasts a long long time

Yes, paid it. The father is not mechanically inclined. The kid (15) just finished rebuilding the bike himself and, as kids do if they don't have good guidance (or any guidance), he went with "all the stuff I need to be the fastest" which apparently included a very high-compression piston. Interestingly ... friends of my wife's family have been racing (with the OCMC here in Ontario Canada) for decades. The wife and I went to one of those races this summer and I actually commented to D (the racer) that I was surprised I didn't smell any race fuel. "Oh, no one uses that here, we just race for fun. We run pump fuel". So, here's a real racer (his son races too) and all the other people at that track/event NOT using or needing race fuel and then there's this 15 year old (who isn't made of money) "needing" high compression and race fuel when he has absolutely ZERO experience riding a dirt bike in competition and very little experience riding trails. As mentioned earlier, D has been riding for decades and his son (23) has been riding since the age of 5. My friends son doesn't stand a chance out in real competition, high-compression or otherwise. Unfortunately I completely understand what happened here as I have personally made WAY TOO many costly or stupid mistakes myself when I was an un-guided youngster when it came to cars and performance. |

I have my '67 tuned to race on E85, the poor man's race fuel.
|
I got 4.599$ from costco gas
|
Paid $10.00 per gal. for leaded 110 this summer. Last year it was $9.00 per gal. The lowest I've paid was around $8.00 per gal. back 3 years ago.
|
As stated in post 16, I use 100LL in my older cars with high compression. Frankly, no more than I drive them I don't care what it costs within reason. When I have checked, it is less than double non ethanol pump gas 91.
