Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

That's right. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif A VERY reliable source has told me that George Case and the gang will end the fall classic at "Da Grove" next year. I know it as the Keystones and always will! Hell...no sponsor has had a better name then The Keystones, xxxcept for maybe the SummerNationals.....yea, that's right, the only SummerNationals ever....at Englishtown!

Have raced there for years and hate to see the track go, but........it's be sold to developers for what else?...... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif houses.

So......if I'm wrong, I'll take the blame.....if I'm right, well......you can say "I heard it from Jeff" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

Here's a good pic at the one of the best tracks around!

"........it's be sold to developers for what else?...... houses"

Contrary to popular belief, we need someone to build houses somewhere. I'm guessing most of us live in a house that was built by someone. I'm sorry the racetrack will be gone but congrats to the seller for probably finally making his investment in the land pay off.

you sure? i cant see why they would sell out, tons of land around track that would/should sell first, unless they sold cheap, or were offered.. billions to sell

there is 2 super stock events, the nationals, super chevy, ford nationals, mopar race, hotrod muscle car race, harley event, vw jam thingie, flea markets, etc etc and the race series.

also..as far as i know.. the land next to pit(left side going down track) isnt track owned.

This is a NEW one on me! Can't hardly believe it though. NEVER heard anything about the Grove. A bunch of stuff about Englishtown but never about the Grove. No need to do away with the track for houses because there is miles of open land before and after the race track. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

guys the other land might not be for sale...I am with Charley, anyone could have bought it if it was/is for sale/sold.

bottom line the cat paying the taxes on the land calls the shots with the countys blessing, not the neighbor complaining.

Steve,

As someone that moved from an area of lots of "somethings"
to an area full of "nothings", I have to say that it makes
a great deal of financial sense to sell properties like this
as the surrounding infrastructure make for better living.

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

I would be surprised if it's really sold. It's not like it's a busy area with lots of businesses nearby. And access to the turnpike isn't that easy either. It's up in the middle of nowhere. I cna't see a good reason a developer would want to pay a premium for that location. I hope it's not true, we keep losing too many racetracks.

I agree 100%. I have been to this track many times, and it is a great facility. There are not many left that are as nice as Maple Grove. We do have Englishtown, but that is not real close to this track, and not as nice in my opinion. If they keep closing them down at this rate, you will only see more street racing take place.

Hey guys, I speak from first hand experience, I wish that I had a dollar for each phone call I recieved over the years asking me if RP was sold. I have heard from one of the most official sources that this is just a rumor and just that another rumor. With the housing market in a tail spin I would find it very hard to believe that MGP would offer a great local for a housing development. I'm going to call him.

George was kind and a gentleman when my son was going thru his fight with leukemia (3/98-9/4/00).

We obviously put the SuperComp racing on hold and George was gracious and accomodating when we attended the races to spectate during Michael's fight.

Michael lost his battle on Labor Day, 2000 (at age 20) and George still acknowledges me when I now spectate. Maybe this year, and many years to come, the Keystones National skys with be bright with sunshine with an adjusted altitute of 500'NO STARTING LINE has better hook the Da Grove. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

Due to development E-Towns days are numbered. Sad but true!
The Grove… No Way!! For the time being The Housing Market is bust and there are too many available farms within
a 100 radius that could be had much cheaper. That is if Toll or Morrissey don’t already own them. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
I know of at least 3 housing development's that are being put on hold due to the fact that they can’t sell the
the finished units without some serious incentives. On top of the recent raw material cost increase……
Unfortunately this is going to affect a lot of people, From the developers down to the tradesman…

I was at that meeting when the new politicos tried to shut down the E-Town racetrack. Pro E-towns were 2 to 1 and pretty much made their feelings known. Politicos dropped out quick after that.

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

Thank you Charlie, I will be there next year. I am going to be careful in the way that I say this because I do not want anyone to be offended, I usually do not post comments that can be read the wrong way, and I will not start now. The original post is about Maple Grove, but there was a post that said that Raceway Park ("Englishtown")'s days are numbered. Raceway Park was founded by my best friend and his brother with the backing and support of their dad and their uncle, unfortunately all four previously mention men have passed away, all of the sons now running the facility have no desire to sell or close the track. If anything more money has been invested into the future of the facility. I have worked at RP since 1988 when I was 18 years old and now become one of the announcers. Raceway Park's days are not numbered. Come out and visit us this weekend for our NHRA points race and enjoy, any club member is always welcomed to visit me up in the booth. No insult or disrespect is sent, the track is up and running strong. Thanks Andrew https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Andrew,
You must be the guy I've been reading about who several wanted to do the announcing at the Reunion!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I started going to E-town in '66 when the pits were on the right side and mostly gravel. I remember the fun days with Berserko Bob.

I agree, RP's days are not numbered. The yuppies who moved in close recently and raised a stink were shot down. There's not much more land around that place for another wave of the same ignorance.

Money talks, and the mass of businesses around the track will continue to be the track's best support, along with the racers themselves! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

This rumor just surfaced again this week. A buddy of mine runs points at maple and he heard the same thing from other racers this past week. I have also heard that maple was sold from other people who have no interest in drag racing. I know someone who lives about 500 feet from the main gate at the track. The next time i see him i will ask him what the scoupe is.

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

As for surrounding infrastructure. I remember going out to the track and we travelled a few miles through the woods to get there. Didn't see any town water or sewer handy to hook up to. Lots of corn fields though. I think that John Force described it as the nicest track in America.

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

I doubt Maple Grove was sold. The Stauffer family who owns the track is going to be making some improvements this comming year. They are going to do more paving in the pit area and grind the track surface.

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

A buddy of mine was running the bracket finals this passed weekend. He heard right out of George Case's mouth that the bracket finels are going to be held at Maple Grove at least until 2012. Also the Nationals have been signed on until 2020. The current rumor in the pits was that the restrant acrossed the street from the track was sold and it will turned into a campground.

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

It funny that this keep popping up I have heard it was NOT sold and the new housing market is in the dumps I have a friend the works for GMC mortgage and he told me over the week end new housing is dead the foreclose rate is at all time high I can not see a developer buying up that land to build homes that will not sale and can not get a mortgage He told me by years end just try getting a mortgage will be a tuff also the mortgage companies are telling the builders that they are way to high in the price of new homes so if the grove was sold the developer will be in a losing battle just to break even
I don’t think it was sold they can build them BUT selling a new home then getting a fixed rate mortgage on an over price home is not going to happen it’s a lost that I can not see any developer going to make https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

I hate to say it, but the way that track is managed and taken care of at meets is the WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They call you to the staging lanes THREE HOURS before you get to run. Imagine sitting in a car in the sweltering heat and humidity in that valley for hours, not able to get out to go pee, or get a drink OR work on your car.
As far as I'm concerned, if it's sold, OK OK OK OK OK! Yes, it has history, but it's the WORST run track I know of on the East!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, Atco, is a close second to the worst run track I know of. Anymore, they just all seem to want the gate money. Fill the pits with weed-wackers, motorcycles, snowmobiles, kids in mini dragsters (that take 15 minutes to make a run) and who knows what else, then you're luckey if you get ONE RUN.
Ronnie's car has YET to go to a track where he could make more than 2 runs. That's no way to tune or set up a car. One or two runs at a time at different tracks with different weather and different starting line prep (read---NO prep) is no way to bring a car to it's potential.
I can't tell you how many times we've waited in the staging lanes to make a pass, then ran out of time for one reason of another, then just loaded for home. OR this past weekend's trip to Cecil, which had "Test & Tune" on it's schedule, only to find it was a Harley meet. No racing cars. The state cops had to break up that fiasco! Two trips to Atco, waiting again for the weed wackers to run, or the street racers (No time nationals), and getting rained out and loading for home. There's no GD place to go race anymore where you can get 5 or 6 runs to sort out the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't CARE if the Grove is sold. IT hasn't done us any good in ages!!!!! Fri nights the track is NOT prepared and every street tire car is filling the starting line up with everything stuck in it's treads.
I'm too hot to continue.

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

Verne

Is this a grass roots movement to take it back to the streets?
I agree, but at what track don't you find this?
Between the costs of getting there, getting in, getting fuel and sitting all day for a couple minutes of seat time - is it worth it?
Test & Tune at Cecil is usually a 5.0 Mustang and foreign car convention.
The last time I was there I got in 3 runs - Not counting 3 or 4 hole shots each time on the return road, just to get some enjoyment out of the night.
The staging lanes at Maple Grove are more of a social gathering then anything else. Your there so long the should be serving food!
Maybe the roundy round guys have the right idea? Is it time to build another stock car and spend my week nights banging the dents back out?

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

Sorry Verne, I look at your scenario as a good thing - at least these kids are not racing out on the street in their 5.0's, weedwackers, etc... I've been through the same frustration you have, and can relate more of the same types of stories. However, a test-n-tune is indeed a Friday night 'open' event for people who want to run their drivers - not a serious race car tuning session. When I want a serious session, I get together with a bunch of buddies and we rent the track for the day!

I think Maple Grove Raceway has done a phenomenal job at resurrecting that track, the events, the concessions, the restrooms, etc.... It's a nice place to go with your 5 year old to see some tiresmoke and wheelstands. The best event of the season is the Dutch Classic, come join us!!

BTW, I've learned that to get the most runs in on a t-n-t night, one should be in line when the gates open, be the first person in the tech lane, and stay until the end. I got 4 runs in one night night even though some 'racer' oiled the track down 2x, another 'racer' went into the sandbox, they eventually shut one lane down..... cool night air at 10pm, can't beat it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

Verne, I know you are upset with "The Geezers at the Grove" this year. And rightly so. But MG to me has to be one of the top tracks on the east coast! I have been to most of them and really like Atco and Cecil but the Grove is the cleanest strip around, plus a gorgeous setting! Hey if you bring back York US 30 then the Grove slips to #2. JMO And BTW the Grove is sold. Heard that from the racers at Englishtown at the points meet. I think through 2009 the Grove is good. A sad state of affairs! Sam

Verne_Frantz 10-02-2007 06:16 PM

Re: Maple Grove Sold? You heard it from me!

There is no doubt that the Grove is a beautiful facility. I just think it could be managed much better. After running a race track for a while, you should have an idea of how many cars you can run in an hour (with no delays), so why tell a guy he doesn't have time to adjust his clutch because he's going to run "soon", then call him to the lanes only to let him sit for 3 hours!?! We could have changed everything on the car except the Paint in that time. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif Ronnie was there an hour before the gates opened and made his 3rd run at 11pm.
AS for Fri nights, it's not a good venue for testing a serious car because the track doesn't get groomed, or if it does, it doesn't stay that way for long due to all the street tires.
Plans are in the works now to get a few racers together and rent a track. That's really the only way to get enough seat time, back to back to get a car sorted out well.
All rants aside, I"ve always loved the Grove and it will be sad to see it go...............but not as sad as it would be if it was well run... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif
