Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
I having a bit of a delema with a tach I sold months back. I would like some feedback as to what I should do in this situation. I sold a very nice SW tach on ebay in mid-June. I did not hear anything from the buyer until just the other day. He said he sent the tach to a tach repair shop to be tested and was told it was no good. Apparentl he sent the tach directly to this shop when he received it but they did not get around to testing it until now. I had the sender for the tach and tested it before I sold it. The tach worked well. The buyer claims he has 3 good senders but could not test the car himself because he has no cars with points to test it. Now, over 2 months later he wants me to pay for the repair of the tach. I think it is too late for a UPS claim. I do not want to take the tach back as it was working when I sold it. Something seems very fishy to me. I think he either tried to use it with no sender, dropped it, had a surge in the system with no fuse, etc. I would like to do the right thing but feel like I am being taken advantage of. What should I do in this situation?
Any input is greatly appreciated, https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Jason |

you don't owe that person a thing.

Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
First, It is now Sept. and he was wrong not to communicate with you about any problems............
It was his tach at time of purchase ,if he thought it wasn't working properly he should have asked for his money back or sent it back to you to check it--NOT go on his own merry way to mount up repair bills and then send you the bill...... How much is the repair bill?........ |
Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
Has the buyer already left feedback on the transaction! I think that two months is TOOOO long of a time to expect a refund or repair cost. And you know in your heart that it tested out OK.I would just tell the guy that it just has been too long and there is nothing you can doat this time to assist in the cost of the repairs. Not your fault a shop has waited until now to say it is bad! Maybe they hooked up something wrong and burnt it out.I don't think you owe the guy anything at this point.

Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
No, the buyer did not leave feedback. He also bought an LS6 intake from me at the same time and has left feedback for that. I left feedback for both items when I was paid. I know it worked well and considered keeping it but had no use for it at the time. He says the cost of the repairs is $250. He also has not told me what is wrong. The buyer wants me to contact the repair shop.
Thanks for the input, Jason |
Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
Too many things could have taken place in the 2 months. They are used parts. You don't owe him a thing.

Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
I agree... 2 months is crazy to expect that anyone would refund or pay for a repair... and why did he take it upon himself to have the repair done with out authorization from the seller? He should have immediately contacted you about the problem... not 2 months later.

I don't think you owe him anything Jason.

Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
I do not think he has had it repaired yet. I personally think he tried to hook up the tach himself, possibly to a late model ignition, could not get it to work(broke it), then sent it to the repair shop. I am always one to try to look at both side of the story but am having trouble with this one. If I take the tach back then I get back less than I original sold since the tach was working when I sold it.
Thanks again for all the help, Jason |
Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
he blew it up and is probably this new generation of return'ers I call them, I see them at Home Depot, Freddies, etc...standing in line getting there money back for stuff they used to do a job with or have buyers remorse after they opened it and mucked with it and now have the sack to want there dough back in full, messes it up for the honest folks, we get to pay more to cover the stores losses on stuff.
Jason hit your pms, Bud. |
Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
2 months later, I'd tell him to pound salt. Sounds like he's trying to put one over on ya. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
I would drag it out another month....after that time it's too late for him to leave you negative feedback https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Then tell him "Sorry, Charlie" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif

Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
Even though it has been two months, I'd suggest calling UPS to file a claim. Although there's lots of supposition here about what the buyer MAY have done, you're not sure of anything other than it worked when you sent it and now it doesn't. It MAY have been damaged in shipment, and by contacting UPS you're showing good faith to the buyer.
If UPS says it's too late to file a claim, THEN you should tell the seller that his complaint fell outside the insurance window, and that's what he paid shipping w/insurance for. You can't give a 'lifetime' warranty. Put yourself in the buyer's shoes -- if you were him, what would you want the seller to do at this point? Depending on what the repair bill is, UPS may be willing to pay the repair, rather than the cost of the item (or whatever you insured it for). I've gone the repair route with UPS before with satisfactory results. Good luck, BCD. |

I think that sounds like some good advice BCD. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
That sounds good to me too. I already asked the buyer if he had the box I shipped the items in. He said he threw it away. I hope they will insure it without packaging.

Jason, I think a lot of us are overlooking the above statement in your original post. You shipped a working item. The buyer or his shop that he hired out took two months to test this. Why ???? This really smells like dead fish that have been on an intake manifold for a week. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
Re: Ebay buyer delema. Opinions?
my 2 cents,
I had the same problem with 69 camaro console gauges I sold on ebay and was told they worked when I purchased box finds of stuff but the buyer said all the gauges were no good, what to do I paid for 2 new repop gauges and he paid for 2 repop gauges and now the problem is gone and again my 2 cents only is pay for half of the repair bill and remove that stress from your life. mike https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
