I NEED SOME PAINT ADVICE....

I went through the drivethru at McDonalds a little while ago and rubbed up against a damn bollard!!! Well now I have red bollard paint all around my wheel well... How can I get this off without ruining my paint and having to have the area repainted??? I'm not having a good day..... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif

Did you get Fries with that?
Try wet sanding & rubbing compound.

Re: I NEED SOME PAINT ADVICE....

wet sanding the area with a hi-grit paper should do the trick.
then hit it with a buffer, mild pad and compound... then swirl mark reducer.

Re: I NEED SOME PAINT ADVICE....

what grit paper? and what kind of rubbing compound should I use? I don't know jack when it comes to paint and finishes... Thats why my Nova and Olds look the way they do.. lol. I have all the tools..just haven't attempted it yet... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif

Re: I NEED SOME PAINT ADVICE....

1200-2000. make sure you get WET sand paper. It should have a grey backing NOT a tan backing. Move in "X" directions. The human eye cannot pick up defects in paint that criss-cross. Do not role the edge of your fender with the sand paper, otherwise you're going to remove paint. Also, make sure you get a wet sanding sponge and DO NOT use your finger tips to wet sand.

3M makes a great compound and its pretty moderately priced. They also make a swirl mark remover. When you're all done sanding and buffing, get some Zaino car polish, clay bar and wax the area you wet sanded.

Try laquer thinner first, it will be much faster and take the paint out of the scratches.

will that screw up my factory paint?

Re: I NEED SOME PAINT ADVICE....

nope... its not abrasive enough to cut through the clear coat.
My guess is that it will not give you full or complete results... it might even do nothing...

A bollard is quite common among us with palettes for fine cuisine dining.

The most common ones are usually a sturdy metal pole ~ 3 feet high that protects something. They have them around the gas pumps, drive-thru's, etc.

Just try a little compound first. I bet most of it comes out. Just had to do it to my moms little white Blazer. Side swiped the whole truck pulling from McDonalds drive through. WHEW!! I got to get her off the road. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

I side swiped one of those in my 71 RS back in high school... dad was out of town... came home... did the body work... primed & painted it.... thought I was in the clear...
Dad says about a week later... what the hell did you hit in your car? You, didn't clean the paint gun very well... doh. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif

The craziest experience I had in McD's Drive-Thru was about 20 yrs ago when this chick tried to pass me while I was waiting at the p/u window. . Her Volare' wheel caught the curb...went up a garden rock and like in slow motion slowly rolled over onto it's driver's side! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif .
I got out of my car, went over and pushed/rocked the Volare' a couple times and it landed back on it's wheels...she just looked up at me crying all over her Corinthian Leather interior and drove away w/ dented driver's side panels and smashed mirror! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif .

Nice. I used to wark at a NAPA auto parts in Hawaii. I used to get tipped all the time helping tourists in their rental cars with that trick! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif
