65 BUICK WILDCAT 4SPD CONVERT

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q.../65wildcat.jpg

425 cu in with a four speed. just rolled out of a barn in the Hamptons. I cant seem to find pics of any other wildcats with this grill or front fender trim above the bumper. maybe there are cornering lights here?
hopefully will see in person soon with camera. owner wants to sell. who knows what its worth? Where can I find numbers on factory four speeds?

Please no "rare verses desireable" jokes.
You know who you are !! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/ooo.gif

please any buick folks chime in.

I have numbers. I'll take a look when I get home. They aren't worth too much, but I'd rather have one than many regular musclecars.

its a bench with a small oval shaped chrome console similar to a 63 nova SS maybe. thats how it was described, more shall be revealed once it gets to the shop.

thanks for input. I would love a big car 4spd vert but sadly its not in the cards for me. I really wouldnt rather have a Buick.

"owner wants to sell. who knows what its worth? Where can I find numbers on factory four speeds?"

owner may have stumbled across insane auctions on TV causing belief car is desirable, this causes barnfinds to become unreachable. right now he wants to know what its worth to motivate the sale. has anyone seen anything like this move on E-Bait or anywhere else. give me a ballpark to play in so I can throw him a number.
thanks

For grins, here's a'64 for sale...not sure it helps. It's a dual quad car and I think it's in Canadian $$'s.

Take the $15k and double it...

Re: 65 BUICK WILDCAT 4SPD CONVERT

I think the person selling the yellow one is smoking crack. I'd like to see him break 30, even.

Anyhoo . . . this is the info that I have. I am not making claims it is correct, but I believe it to be so.

For one thing, is it a Wildcat or Wildcat Custom?

If it's the former, they made 29 4-speed ragtops, 77 the latter.

Guessing it's a 425-4, it's 5 or 27. If it has AC, I can figure out those numbers too.

It's surely one I'd love to have - I mean, I'd be all over it in a jiffy if it wasn't for the fact that I don't have the dinero - but when you compare it with other big cars like a 427/425 Caprice, I don't think its rarity brings the high bucks.

Re: 65 BUICK WILDCAT 4SPD CONVERT

thanks Mike, thats the help I needed. the 64 is on the large Electra 225 platform while the 65 moved to the smaller LeSabre. I have been told that this car is one of nine as the 64 is one of two. (not rare like the one of one GTO RAIV verts) This vehicle has had but a few collector owners with the original owner reportedly being an executive at Buick or General Motors. Also claimed but not yet documented is the mileage reading of 10,000.

Re: 65 BUICK WILDCAT 4SPD CONVERT

First of all let me say this is a cool-looking car and would make a terrific cruiser for someone.

Looking at the underside of that hood and other pictures, I believe this car was rusty in the past but has been repainted/restored. Since the whole engine is painted the same color I would question the quality of that resto, also it looks like a lot of the hard to find parts need to be replated / restored still (air cleaner, speedometer surround).

Exterior paint looks nice in the pictures but beyond that there is a lot of money to be spent in my view to bring this car up to snuff.

No offense meant, but these are factors that would affect the value..Would you agree this car is a 3 minus?

-Sam

Re: 65 BUICK WILDCAT 4SPD CONVERT

thanks Sam for the input. I have only seen the same pics as you so far. There is a repaint that has been described as needing a buff and/or wet sand. Not sure about the underhood detail, but a link above shows another Buick with similarly painted engine and brackets. I do not know if that is correct. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
I also assumed the car was not a 2x4 because of only one wingnut and the look of the intake manifold. I am not a Buick guy, but someone has said this IS a 2x4 by looking at the pics. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
I wouldn't go as far as giving this car a number without seeing it in person and documenting the mileage claim. I am planning to get there today if the rain lets up.

I don't go for this 1 of 1 crap . . . According to my info, a '64 Wildcat convertible with 2x4 and a 4-speed is 1 of 53.

I believe the seller of the 64 on the classycars site is claiming "one of two left", how he knows what happened to the other 51 I do not know, nor do I care to speculate. I am only trying to gather info on this 65 to determine its value and possibly find it a new home when a selling price can be determined. Thanks for your help and the data.

2-4 cars only had one wing nut...but on a Buick it was a knurled acorn looking thing...

x Baldwin Motion 01-13-2007 07:54 PM

Re: 65 BUICK WILDCAT 4SPD CONVERT

thanks Bob, I see the curled acorn thingie, but the setup on the intake leaves me guessing. Is this "cross ram" style, side by side or what? It dosent appear to be much room up there considering the amount of exposed manifold. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Belair62 01-13-2007 09:08 PM

Re: 65 BUICK WILDCAT 4SPD CONVERT

straight line front to back...no crossram for the ole nail ead. If it says Super Wildcat 465 on the cleaner its a 2-4 but I guess once you see it you can confirm...I dont think they called a single 4 Super...can't remember. Been away from Buick a long time.

Re: 65 BUICK WILDCAT 4SPD CONVERT

Its definitely 2/4...I can see the front AFB base and that air cleaner will ONLY come on 2/4. VIN will tell you if its a Wildcat Custom or Wildcat . There will be a 6 instead of 5 in the VIN denoting the higher lever Custom.

Belair62 01-14-2007 05:02 AM

Re: 65 BUICK WILDCAT 4SPD CONVERT

Just looked at the trim tag...it is a Wildcat Custom..I also noticed someone remover the tag and pop riveted it back on...the 2L probably means 4 speed...the color is called Verde Green

I knew there weren't many 4spd Wildcats, but my knowledge did not amount to much more than that. I've been on V8Buick for a couple of years, and it's one of my favorites. Lots of car guys with other cars frequent it too. I'm glad I could be of service.
