Yenko Deuce Pics
All,
This is a real Yenko Deuce that was in my home town. I know most of the history of the car until it was sold in 1988 -1989 and lost track of it. I am going to talk with the owner of the car when I knew it and get some more pics and see if I can pick up any more information on the car. I am sure he has alot of info on the car and prob the VIN as well. http://www.gearheadmex.com/images/yenko1sm.jpg http://www.gearheadmex.com/images/yenko2sm.jpg Before you go picking up on all the things that look wrong I know many things about it. First stripes on rear are wrong as the car had a repaint after original owner hit a mailbox after some silliness on a side street one night. My friend did not like the stripes going down and had them turned up. He swapped out the bench seat for some buckets. At the time of this pic the engine in the car is not the original and as you can see was setup for a dual quad tunnel ram. I always told him I wanted to buy this car if he wanted to sell it. One day in 1988 I see him and he tells me he is getting married and needs cash so the Yenko is for sale. I had just bought a corvette so I did not have any cash. Assumming he wanted what it was worth at the time I told him I would need to talk with my dad and borrow the $$ until I could sell the vette. Long story short I got the OK from Dad, went back and he just sold it for less than 1/2 of what the car was worth. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif He informed the new owner of where to find the original engine (sitting in a speed boat at a local body shop), last I heard they were reunited. Does this story sound familiar to any current Deuce owner? If so I would sure like to know what happened to the car. I hope some one here has the car and it has been restored. Gearhead. |
Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
cool pics...I wonder if you could get any bigger tires on the back of a Nova? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif I'll bet a dollar to doughnuts Marlin knows the history of the car, and who owns it now if it still exists... not too many Citrus Green deuces out there...
This one was at SCR7...only Citrus car ever to attend a Supercar Reunion. https://www.yenko.net/reunion/SCR799992.JPG |

Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
Same car as the one at SCR8. I believe this car takes the cake for having the most owners, somewhere around 17 +/-. The mailbox post also put a dent in the roof from what I'm told, maybe it was just the hood though - bad memory. I think this car spent time in Wyoming as one of the owners went to school out there, but it came back to IL. Eventually the car was bought by Wade Fletcher in WI, then bought by the current owner in MI. The car was sold new at Sam Leman Chev in Roanoke, IL.
Very cool pics, love the tires and engine - not the first deuce to have dual quads stuck through the hood! |
Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
Hi, I bought this car from the person who bought it, he only had it a short time (about 1988). I owned it until 2002 when I sold it to a collector in northern Il. I did get the original engine with the car & it was in the boat @ the body shop as mentioned. The car was the same as pictured except for the hood & tunnel ram.

Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
Really? Different car then, not the one at SCR8 - but that one hit a post as well!! Hard to tell which is which without a vin number to trace. Jerry's old car was sold out of Sam Leman Chev in Roanoke as well - anyone want to guess which other dealer might have sold two CG deuces? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
BTW this car is still in IL, owned by BobJ. |

Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
Some time back I remember us looking at a drivers side photo posted or linked by someone of a Citrus deuce sitting in a driveway and wondering if it was real or not. I believe it was from the same area in Illinois... It was a recent photo. I'll have to dig thru the search... You remember this M? When discussing the photo we did reference that it was not Bob's car...

Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
A red automatic from Capitol was the last one sold, right?
|
Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
That was the last one produced (per body number), but from the info we have not the last one sold.
|
Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
you sure about that? Whats the date the last one sold? I have a letter from Capitol with a very late date on it stating the red Deuce was still in their inventory well into 71...I was thinking it was you who told me it was the last one ever sold.
|
Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
I don't know when the Capitol red car was sold - somebody won't cough up a copy of it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif However, the last one sold per our info was sometime in October of '71 - at a very reduced price!!

[/ QUOTE ] I have been told by a friend that the father of the young man that has the Yenko Deuce in Ottawa, Il now says it is a clone. I will find out for sure. Now that I know the one that I started the thread about is accounted for here is some info. James Ohlendorf ( the tall lanky kid in the 2nd photo) was the second owner of the car. A guy named Bomgarts bought in new I believe at Lehman's. He hit a mailbox with it and somehow Jim's dad (owner of Ottawa engine ended up with the car and it eventually went to Jim). Jim raced it a few times at Oswego and ran some 12.70's spinning the tires hard through first. I am going to see Jim this weekend and I am going to see if he has any interesting stuff on the car. Ask that Ottawa owner if his Citrus was at Morris 05.

From then until a couple of weeks ago I have been trying to find out if it was real or not. I am going to get over to his house when it warms up and I will get the VIN to confirm. Paul |

Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
I'm the owner of the Citrus Green Deuce that attended the reunion. This car has a very interesting past. I'm actually the 14th owner and I have managed to talk to all the previous owners except the third owner who owned it for a year and a gentleman who only owned the car for six months. The dent in this car (referred to in earlier posts) was actually along the forward portion on the right hand side of the roof. The fourth owner was drag racing the car around midnight on a seldom traveled road. The road was divided by wood posts with cable betweet the posts. The right front tire blew out and he went off the road and broke off one of the wood posts and it crased onto the roof with the cable still attached!

Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
I need to figure out how to post some pictures. The car has been in a few magazines so I will look them up tonight and provide the issue dates. The best memory I have with this car is when I was able to reunite it with the 8th owner. During the history search I talked with all but two of the previous owners. I did keep in touch with a few of them over the years. The 8th owner had relatives that lived within an hour of me. He called one evening and said he was coming to Michigan and asked if he might be able to see his old car. I of course jumped at the chance to make that happen. I had the car waiting for him in the driveway so he could see it coming down the street. It was very gratifying to see the bond that once existed for a gentleman and what was once his car. You could see it on his face, the flood of memories from a time long since past. He took the car for a short drive and then I showed him the photo alblum of when I first purchased the car and the restoration process. We took pictures of the occasion and he left after and all too short of a visit. If memory serves, I believe we each had a tear in our eyes. I haven't heard from him in a while now but if he or any of the other previous owners and I should meet, I'm sure the effect would be the same.

While we know who restored this Deuce, we do not know who supplied the stripes. Check with Duece Heaven if you need the most correct Kit. |
Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
Phil still has the Atlas wheels on his car.

Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
I'm not following either, is there an issue with the stripes or.... There were 10 citrus Deuce's produced, with 6 remaining (4 4speeds & 2 a/t's), so any info or update on one is welcomed.

Thought Stef may have been sending me on a wild goose chase ... I was referencing his "duece heaven" -- looked for "deuce heaven" ... found a site dedicated to 32' Fords. So is there a "duece heaven" ?? |
Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
Ah! Deuce Heaven is the nickname given to Schonenthaler Restorations in IA since he has restored a fair number of Deuces. I think there might be license plates that have this as well.....

Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
Deuce Heaven is a place on earth...........but instead of God you have to deal with the Mayor.

Re: Yenko Deuce Pics
Back to the regularly scheduled program.
There are two Citrus Deuces in this thread. Phil's Deuce and Bob's Deuce. Both 4 speeds and both believed sold out of Sam Leman Chevrolet in Roanoke, Illinois. They Both ran around in the same area, so the stories have been intertwined. I was referred to the original owner of Phil's Deuce, Larry Bayer. Super nice guy and at 67, seems to have a very good Memory. He confirmed that at age 21-22, just back from Vietnam, that he went to Leman to purchase the Deuce. He said that they had three, Red, Yellow and Citrus Green and picked the CG because it was the only 4 speed Deuce. (He said there was only one 4 speed at the dealership at that time.) He said that he added headers and traction bars and within two years traded the car to Whitmore Chevrolet in Ottowa on a new Vega GT Wagon. He said his car was purchased by Bumgard's who owned the local Nappa auto parts store. Later on Larry did build a clone of his Old Deuce, with painted stripes and it's still in Ottowa, Illinois. I did invite him to MCACN and he says he plans to be there. |
