Getting Factory Aluminum Finish Back
If an aluminum part has been bead blasted, is there a way to get the factory aluminum color/finish back?
All input is appreciated! |
Re: Getting Factory Aluminum Finish Back
Fred........After Glass Beading........Use this.....Follow the Directions and you'll probably have to do a couple of applications to "Even" out the finish and eliminate any streaking

There is that word again.
The aluminum looks great. I need to get some of that. The cleaner that is, not the nappy. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif --------------------- Chris 1967 Yenko Stinger YS-199 Southeast of Disorder |

If you hit the manifold with plastic media after bead blasting it will level out the finish. Oven cleaner followed by dry fine steel wool also gives good results.

I'm a big fan of the Eagle 1 stuff. I used it on an old GM dual quad intake without blasting it and had almost the same results. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Getting Factory Aluminum Finish Back
If the blasting was thoroughly done, shouldnt really need a product afterwards to even it out. I prefer a fine steel wool rub down after blasting:

Funny, Bill. Was wondering if someone would notice that. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif
I guess it had been running a spacer at one time, but dont worry... short ones are in it now. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |

You can use the wheel cleaner and then wash with dishwashing liquid while scrubbing with fine steel wool or a green scotch brite pad. It gives it a sheen similar to what they had before blasting.

Re: Getting Factory Aluminum Finish Back
I like alumi blast paint made by Seymour Paints.. If you look really close you can tell the part was painted but I think it is pretty close to the original finish plus it will protect the part. Plus if there is a stain it will cover nicely. I have used it on aluminum intake manifolds and it has held up very well...
