Motion installed tack
What tack was installed by Motion on their 68 altered cars??
Does anyone have a pic of the tack and sending unit PJ |
Re: Motion installed tack
I would imagine this would vary from car to car. The tach of choice was the popular Sun Blue/Green (8-10k) line but I'm certain they used other tachs. Small gauges were Sun accessory gauges or small black face/white letter SW gauges. Placement was on the dash pad or steering column for the tach and under dash for the small gauges.

Re: Motion installed tack
They were fond of using this tach on the hood.

Re: Motion installed tack
Thanks
I guess that the choice was up to the owner of the car to decide. The sun tack was real popular back in 66 67 68 however the SW was also a popular choice too. Does anyone have a pic of the SW tack for 68?? thanks for the info PJ https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Motion installed tack
This tack was the popular one, when I bought it at Motion in the early seventies - don't mind the dust on the dash! Time for spring clean-up!!

Re: Motion installed tack
The Sun Super Tach II was not available in the 60's. I believe it came available in the mid-70's. I will get a few common styles together and post a pic of a few tachs that should have been available through Motion. The Sun Super tach in the 8K and 10K full sweep style were probably the most popular.

Re: Motion installed tack
Here are a few pictures of some common SW and Sun tachs of the 60's. There were many variations of each.

Re: Motion installed tack
Also, most of these tachs are self contained, no sending unit required. The exceptions being the early Sun Greenline(EB9A for 8 cyl 12 volt) and the SW pedestal(990B sender).

Re: Motion installed tack
Wow you have quite a collection!!
So which one would you say I could purchase from Motion or the cocal speed shop for my 68 Camaro either the sun tack or the SW tack. I know that there are many models which one is correct for the year. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...-I-Have-It.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...-I-Have-It.gif PJ |
Re: Motion installed tack
The reason I posted these particular tachs is because I think they would all be available in 68.

Re: Motion installed tack
Joe,
Do you think the Sun Super Tach with the white needle is the first incarnation? Maybe '68? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gifVerne |
Re: Motion installed tack
I believe so, but to be perfectly honest, I'm not 100% positive... most of the catalogs and ads are black and white... I guess I could check the backsides for date codes if i was ambitious enough... maybe I'll do that when I start digging stuff out to pack for Collinsville.

Re: Motion installed tack
Joe,
I bought a new Super Tach head with a white needle and it was stamped 68. The one I bought for my car in 69 (stamped 69) has the red/orange needle. I'm not sure if the Super Tach was out earlier than '68 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif Verne |

I'll have to look at mine but I think the SST90 has a white needle, orange shift indicator and a green stripe vs. the blue stripe like the one on the far right in Joe's picture. |
Re: Motion installed tack
Dennis,
When I refer to the Super Tach, I'm meaning the electronic one that doesn't need a sender. I thought all the SSTs were that way. Maybe I'm wrong. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gifVerne |
Re: Motion installed tack
Joe,
Could you possibly help identify this gauge panel I have? It's aluminum and doesn't have a manufacturer's name on it that I can find. I've looked through a number of old speed catalogs and can't find one like it. Thanks, Verne http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...Gaugepanel.jpg |

[/ QUOTE ] I could be mistaken on the model numbers but the early 'full face' models were available in 7000 and 9000 RPM configurations. I think they both had the dark lime green inner band on the scale, white needle and flourescent orange 'red line'. I had a 7K model but it evidently went away a few years back. I still have two of the 9K models along with their EB9As. If I recall correctly, the newer transistorized Super Tachs were only available as 8 & 10K versions, another way to differentiate. But as I look back at Joe's picture I see a Green line 9K piece on the far left, and a Blue line 7K piece sitting on top of it, and I thought the Blue lines were all transistor models. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif (Understand, this gray matter is TRULY GRAY now! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif) |

I purchased a panel that looked like that from Honest Charley years ago - I'll see if it is listed in the old catalog I've got. Glenn |

Maybe an Eelco? [/ QUOTE ] That was my first thought too since I sold an Eelco a while back that looked just like that one, including the two lights that protrude out the top. It was cast, probably pot metal, but Eelco was cast into the back of the panel. May be a later version or a copy. |
Re: Motion installed tack
Well, if it's a copy, it was done in '63, because that's when that thing was installed. I've checked all the usual sources and can only find a 4 hole that looks like that, but with 3 light pods, not just 2. I haven't taken it all apart yet (that will come) but looking as carefully as I can from underneath, I can't see any logo at all.
I hope I find the answer some day. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gifVerne |
