Re: my latest barn find
Nice. Where did it come from? Any rust? Are you going to keep it?
|
Re: my latest barn find
Scott, you are incredible with the cars you find....that's a sweet piece..and yes, she would be fine with a 409 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: my latest barn find
I know it's heresy on this board,..but I'm going to say keep the six! It's a nice, original, summer time cruiser. You don't need to win every race,..or any races. You have other cars in your stable for that. But, cruising down main street to the local restaurant with the windows down,.....

Re: my latest barn find
Scott,
The 6cyl SuperSport may seem pretty ordinary, but they only made 2916 of them! Might not be a bad idea to see one preserved.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif Verne |
Re: my latest barn find
this is gonna sound pretty strange but i have to learn how to drive a column shift car never had one.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif
|
Re: my latest barn find
so its a column shift 3 speed with a console?? Wow, very odd..
|
Re: my latest barn find
Tony no real rust to speak of just dusty, was purchased new about 15 miles from my home at bill johnson chev in jan 64 by orig owner who was just put in a nursing home last week. She never married and kept the car like her baby till she no longer could care for it or herself, as for keeping it??probally not as iam not a impala guy but who knows i kinda would like to see how a 409 impala ran in its day https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif.I have been really lucky the past few years with finding several 1 owner survivor cars and have picked up a 1 owner 62 vette and 72 rallye nova just within the last 2 months so somthing will probally have to go.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: my latest barn find
I gotta agree with Verne, it's a pretty rare car as is.
However...................... IF you DO decide to '09 her................. how about a 340 HP version, and leave the three-on-the-tree! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |

so its a column shift 3 speed with a console?? Wow, very odd.. [/ QUOTE ] console with no hole ?? lets see that please. excellent ride. I ve had a few nice driver 6cyl's some last almost two years before getting some power. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
Re: my latest barn find
I gotta agree about keeping the six-cylinder/three speed combo. They all don't need to be super fast rubber burners. Just crank down all four side windows and cruise in your Super Sport. I'm also very curious to see a close-up picture of that shifter-less console!

Re: my latest barn find

I'm going to say keep the six! [/ QUOTE ] Probably far fewer 6-cyl SS cars than 409 cars nowadays. Leave it alone! |
Re: my latest barn find
ditto!

Re: my latest barn find
I hate to tell you this, but in '64 the 3-spd was no longer the standard transmission with a 409 engine. The 340 was available with either the P/G or 4-spd, but the 400 & 425 were only available with a 4-spd. The 3-spd was still the "standard" transmission in all models, including the Super Sport, but only with the 6cyl or one of the 327s.
The top of the console has a separate metal plate where the shifter hole normally is, but on this car, it would be a flat plate with no hole. So, the entire console is not different; just that one piece. I still vote to preserve that piece of history as-is. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif........IN fact, I'd like to document the car before it goes anywhere else or has anything else done to it. That car has a lot to offer from a research point of view. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif If you're interested, I'll send you some forms and put you to work https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gifVerne |
Re: my latest barn find
That looks to nice to change, leave it all original https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: my latest barn find
Three on the tree is fun ! I had a couple of 60's C-10's with them. You found a nice car, looks like a fun ride .

Re: my latest barn find
Just by coincidence, there is a very similar thread going on at the Chevytalk site, and there are pics posted of the 3-spd SS console.

Re: my latest barn find
a 6 cylinder it was, a 6 cylinder it should remain! nice find!

Re: my latest barn find
Verne, while on the subject of 3-speed 409's, I remember my father dragging one home he found with a flat tire and parked in front of a cheap motel back in the seventies. It was a 1963 plain Impala, white with black vinyl top, 409-340HP, 3-speed on the column. Kind of a neat car also but the motor ended up in my mother's SS convert. and the body passed on to someone else. Nobody wanted them 409 cars back then, well things sure did change.

Re: my latest barn find
Mark,
That would have been a GREAT car to save for history too.! A 3-spd '09 '63 with a vinyl roof......rare, rare, rare https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif (the first year) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gifVerne |

Re: my latest barn find
verne it has a plate with the same swirl pattern as the rest of the car that flips up into a storage area also she never drove the car in the rain so it has the orig dotted wiper blades ,man if this was a camaro or chevelle id be in heaven ..I thought the 4 spd console in 64 was a all 1 piece molded plastic with the hole off to the side for the shifter.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: my latest barn find
Wow, what a find ... I vote for leaving it original. What a great car to save for history.

Re: my latest barn find
KEEP BOTH OF THEM STOCK. AND IF THE NOVA IS A TRUE RALLY SPORT PUT THE SIDE STRIP BACK ON IT. A UNCLE HAD A BLUE ONE WITH A WHITE PAINTED TOP AND 4 SP. HE WISHED HE HAD IT NOW.
|
Re: my latest barn find
Keep the 6 in it!
|
Re: my latest barn find
I didn't think you could get the side molding on a Rally Nova? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: my latest barn find
marlin the car has quarters put on it in 83 and she liked the look of the mldg so she had it installed...Y..... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif i really dislike it personally..
|
Re: my latest barn find
Keep it as-is/stock with the six and no shift console. Neat piece!
|
Re: my latest barn find
Toss those side moldings, and put the rally stripes on.
