Re: Dana 69 Z 28
It sure is a hard one to believe...with Yenko and Dana painted on the same car...love to hear the real story.

Re: Dana 69 Z 28
Dana and Yenko had ties...from way back.
Kasey has posted an ad in the past that shows the correlation between Yenko and Dana...So I don't find it hard to believe. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: Dana 69 Z 28
That car looks pretty tough unrestored. Hopefully someone comes up with the history on this car.

Re: Dana 69 Z 28
------Just noticed that the rear wheels are real magnesium. Not sure on the fronts though. Those real mags are worth some serious dinero.........Bill S

Re: Dana 69 Z 28
What is the connection between Yenko and Dana?
I hope the car ends up having an interesting, legitimate history.... |
Re: Dana 69 Z 28
From what I know, Dana was the west coast distributor for the 66' Stingers. I know in 67' Dana figured out that Don was COPO ordering the Stinger bodies and COPO ordered 3 Corvairs. The only one we know the wherabouts of, is the one that Kasey ownes. I am sure that Kasey will correct me if I am wrong. I do not know what the relationship was prior to the Stingers.
I would just detail that car just like it is. The patina is awesome. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif |
Re: Dana 69 Z 28
Just got back from Cali, saw that car at Delmar too. Checked a couple times to see if I could talk to somebody with the car, never had any luck https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif . I really wanted to see under the hood.

Re: Dana 69 Z 28
+++ Chris +++ Your about right, In Nov. 66 Dana , and Yenko had a deal, in that Dana would sale Yenko Stinger's , and Yenko was to sale the Dana 427 Camaro's, Dana had 427 Camaro's for sale in Oct. of 66 on the West Coast, and needed Yenko to sale them on the East Coast in that way each could help the other out. They ran a Ad in the Dec,1966 issue of The National Dragster, stating this that you could get there car's, and parts at either dealer...,but history as I know it, that no Dana's were sold by Yenko, but then there are those that know more about than me, and may let us know if he did.....Kasey

My eyes almost popped out when I found this full-page ad when looking through a pile of old 1966 National Dragster Newspapers.
I had known that Yenko was involved with the Dana sponsored 67 L88 Corvette but didn’t know that Yenko and Dana had any plans involving 427 Camaros. It is not known if Yenko sold any Dana 427 Camaros. They both ran/sponsored 1967 Z/28 racecars so would have been competitors in road racing the Zs in early 1967. Yenko soon after did his own SS350/427 transplants then had the deal with Dick Harrell. I don’t know of any other Yenko/Dana Camaro info other then this the early 1967 ad. That’s why I say this 69 Camaro looks like a made up rat rod type Camaro. Also, it does not show signs of being a racecar such as roll bar, stripped interior, formed wheel wells, trim removal, etc. but it looks cool and would like to hear more about it. |
Re: Dana 69 Z 28
Cool vintage ad!

Re: Dana 69 Z 28

The relationship between Dana Chevrolet and Yenko Chevrolet goes back to 1967 when Don Yenko, Dick Guldstrand and Bob Bondurant were on the DANA race team and co drove the Le Mans 67 Corvette in June 67. It was the only 63-67 Stingray to ever compete at Le Mans.
Dick and Don also raced a DANA 68 Trans Am Camaro as team mates in 1968 for a few races. Bondurant and Guldstrand raced a 67 Camaro Trans Am car that Tommy Dreisi owns today and we see ocasionaly at Vintage races like the Wine Country Classic, Monterey Historics and Sebring just last month. I have a call into Dick Guldstrand to see if he remembers this Z-28 that was at Del Mar. It may have been a 'street' car owned by Paul Dembroski or Payton Cramer, the two owners of DANA back in the day. |
Re: Dana 69 Z 28
Is that the 67 L88 that broke a wrist pin while leading the race by a WIDE margin?
|
Re: Dana 69 Z 28
That's the car. 13 plus hours. DANA knew the bottom end was weak, and wanted TRACO which was very much a 'player' in these days to fix the weak problems. Chevrolet insisted it would go the distance.
This car WILL be at this years BLOOMINGTON GOLD show in St. Charles at the Pheasant Run Resort Jene 26-29. L-88'S are the feature this year. |
Re: Dana 69 Z 28
Yep Chevrolet insisted it have all stock components... Traco wanted better wrist pins... Chevrolet won the battle w/ Traco but lost the race...

[/ QUOTE ] Jim, I don't think this is correct. I don't recall Don with a 68 Dana Camaro. Don ran the DX Oil Corvette Team in 68 with the 2 DX Oil 1968 L88 Corvettes and his old 67 DX Oil L88. I am sure you know these cars as I believe all 3 have been restored. In 1969 Don bought one of the ex-Smokey Yunick 68 Camaros and won the 1969 Citrus 250 at Daytona with Best Photo sponsorship. I believe Don shared this car with Dick G. at the 69 Daytona 24hr where they blew it up. Don also ran it in some 1969 TA races. |
Re: Dana 69 Z 28
I know the owner of this car, I didn't make it to Del Mar, but he has told me about the car before. If I can get over to his house I'll snap some pics.

I have seen one picture of a white 68 Camao with DANA on the rear fenders, and both Don Yenko and Dick Guldstrand on the doors. It is in Dick's personel photo collection. I will have to ask him what's the connection. |
