'69 Chevy C-20 Pickup, Orig Black on Black 396/4-sp

About as cool as it gets for a 2WD truck...factory 396, close ratio 4-speed trans, and ordered black on black. Never seen one ordered this way.

Any idea what the rear gear would be with these options? x2 on the black on black...

4.10 is base.

https://www.gm.com/content/dam/compa...olet-Truck.pdf

If an optional ratio was chosen it would appear on the SPID, calling out the specific ratio by RPO and noun name (ie, "GU6 3.42 axle" or "GT4 3.73 axle").

The base ratio typically is not shown (because it varies based on model, series and powertrain) or may be shown as RPO "GQ8 Base Ratio".

I've never heard of a close ratio, HD 4 speed truck trans and can't find ANY info on an M28 RPO.
Anyone know anything about this transmission ?

The CR 4-speed is shown in the brochure, but no other info is listed.

Where the shifter is located, I would guess a New Process tranny. Never seen anything but a "granny gear" tranny in one of these. Would like to know which NP tranny this has (if that is in fact what it is).

Can't find any info on M28.

Guessing it is a NP435 with a 4.56 first gear. Why would that be considered "close ratio"? Because in the Ford truck, the NP 435 has a 6.68 first gear!!!!!

Still, a very cool truck. And if it DOES have a 4.56 first gear, you could put in a 2.73 rear axle (if you can find one) and drive it like an OD tranny.
