Hot Rod Power Tour 2022

Anyone else doing the Power Tour this year?

After many parts related delays, I am pleased to say Ian and I are again doing the entire Long Haul, and finally this time in our '73 390 powered AMC Hornet. This is my 9th Long Haul (8th in the Hornet! and Ian's 2nd.

We had planned on doing it together last year, but several parts were delayed which led to us doing it in "Plan B", which was Ian's AMG Twin Turbo Mercedes. Not a bad car to do it in, other than the a/c was often too cold. We even strapped two of our old bikes onto the roof, (a '1964 Sting Ray and a 1970 Orange Krate!) Had a blast....

This year the Hornet has an entirely fresh drivetrain front to back. We went with aluminum heads, new rods, all new internals, new headers, new exhaust, new intake, new radiator, new tires and the list goes on and on. Planned on adding the Holley Sniper EFI, but the new fuel tank we were able to secure requires some custom fab work, which will go to Matt at Nickey Performance when we get back. We also had the hood completely reworked and it looks great.

We have put on about 300 miles this week and it runs great; no leaks, no squeeks, no rattles and boy does she have the power! Haven't hammered on it yet as we are breaking it in for the 2,000 mile + run, but I can tell it really screams. Punch it at a 20 mph role and I turn into Denny Barker!

Route takes us from the Detroit area and for Ian, Traverse City area to Memphis, then Memphis to Nashville, Nashville to Hoover, AL then on to Pensacola, FL with the final stop in Atlanta.

We will be making stops at the Corvette Museum and the Wellborn Muscle Car Museum too!

Sooo...anyone else doing the Long Haul or planning on hitting any of the stops?

Let us know as I'd love to get you up to date on our upcoming Gilmore Museum Muscle Car Meet Up and of course, the MCACN show which is really coming together in a BIG way. Have new magnets and stickers for you too!

Hope to see some of you out there.

I'm heading to Memphis Sunday night, will do all of it but the Atlanta leg. It is too hard for me to pass where I live to drive all the way back to Atlanta.
I've never done this before, will they give us a list of stops at check in?

Yes, there is a suggested route and an end point in each city. You arent required to folllow the route, but the stops are always a blast.

What are you driving? We will also be arriving in Memphis Sunday, as we will layover in Bowling Green, KY Saturday and visit the Corvette Museum. It is over 700 miles to Memphis for us!

Not making the Long Haul but I live in the route from Memphis to Nashville. Coming thru Tuesday. I have to work that day but I plan on trying to catch a lot of the cars rolling East to Nashville. I am in Brownsville and our town is hosting an event at the Delta Heritage Center / Tina Turner Museum.

If you roll up Hyw 70 (The oldest Tennessee hwy that runs from Memphis to Bristol) you need to check out Bozo's Bar B Q. They have been in business almost 100 years.

Also when you get to Brownsville there is a neat old fashion Soda Fountain on the Square. Livingstons Soda Fountain & Grill

Hey Bashton I'll keep an eye out for the Yellow Hornet!!!

Bashton, we will be in a white 1991 Chevy K5 Blazer with red guts. She is all original and sporting 195k miles. It was a tough decision to make between a LS swapped 1966 Chevelle and the Blazer. Figured the Blazer would be less of a concern when it comes to weather, parking lots, and general pressure. There will be plenty of 66 Chevelles to look at.
