Can someone explain the difference between 1st tooling and 2nd tooling Rosewood reproduction wheels?

Great question, I would like to know this as well.

I'm guessing, and it sounds familiar to me, that it's possible they refer to the early walnut wheel as the 1st tooling, as that was used in 69 up through about October 68 when the Rosewood was introduced. That might be what they are referring to as the 2nd tooling.

Someone correct me if that is not the case, just looking for some clarification.

Well, That is true, at the start of the 69 build, they used the flatter "dished" metal and put the 68 "walnut" plastic on it. Then around Dec/Jan, they Chev put the matching "Rosewood" plastic on the flatter "dish" wheel.

It looks like the Walnut 69 wheel is now reproduced, but the color does not look like my original!

Thanks for the explanation. I thought I remembered that's what might be going on. Yes the Walnut wheel has been reproduced for a while. D and R has had them for at least a year that I know of, but they aren't referred to as Walnut, they are just referred to as the 1st design. So I was assuming they are referring to the Walnut version, and the 2nd design the Rosewood version, even though they call both of them Rosewood I don't believe the description is completely accurate, especially since the pictures used are exactly the same, lol.

I'll have to make a phone call and confirm before I order, just thought I'd mention it here thinking someone with an early 69 might have gone through this already. :beers:

i have yet to see a good repro walnut or rosewood wheel, maybe they have improved recently

If it's decent, it's good enough for me and for what I'm doing. A super nice original for a proper restoration is hard to find as they all seem to have a flaw, and I'm not paying those prices either. It's bad enough the prices we have to pay for stuff as it stands right now. Besides that, from what I'm seeing, it doesn't even really matter if a car is restored with some repop stuff, or a lot of repop stuff, they are still selling for crazy money either way.
