Shop air compressor

Looking for some opinions and recommendations for air compressors. Primary use for air tools and other general uses. Looking for a quiet unit or do most of you install them outside in a separate room?

Thx in advance

I suggest getting a Quincy.

Sky is the limit with compressors. What are you looking to invest ? I have an Ingersol Rand 5hp, 240 volt that I bought new in 2001. It has about 5,000 hrs on it, many from my trucking days and then powering a blast cabinet/pressure pot, blasting a complete frame, etc. It cost $1,000 new and they are still close to that in price. 175 psi cut out to run the 3/4" impact I have for the wheels on the Pete. It just keeps running with no sign of getting tired and never any oil residue out the bottom drain. I've been very pleased with it.

I too had an Ingersoll Rand prior to getting a 2 stage Quincy. I never had an issue with the Ingersoll Rand but feel that the Quincy is not nearly as loud. I have used them both for work & hobby. Farm equipment, vehicle restoration, etc…

We have a Quincy in our farm shop and it is definately quieter than the old one we had. Had about 5 years and no problems.

Is your new one a scroll, versus piston ? I've read they are quieter.

I’m setting up this scroll now. It sounds like a window air conditioner when running.
