what a bummer.
car is scrubbed from mecum website

I have no idea what went wrong either but, that car is stunning.

The car has a - - paint code on the trim tag so it could have been 1 of 4 colors from the factory. The window sticker showed Aegean Aqua, but I believe it was a reproduction. There was a body broadcast card showing it was a factory W30 car so that should show the original paint color too. I think it still had its original engine and transmission. I talked to the owner in the staging lanes and he was answering any questions anyone asked him about the car. I'm not sure what happened, but I did notice it was gone from the Mecum website within a week of the auction being over.

car was originally gold and very rough

if they had a window sticker showing agean aqua it was a repop.

ive also heard it's a rebody with a restamped trans, but you know how that goes.

Time to take out the trash..

Why in the world would someone change colors on a car like that? Would its original shade of gold have been a -- trim tag?

yes if it was nugget gold

The four colors that were a -- on the trim tag were 51 Sebring Yellow, 53 Nugget Gold, 38 Aegean Aqua and 73 Rally Red. I believe the body broadcast card with this car shows 53 Nugget Gold. There was a scrap book with tons of photos of this car as it was being restored along with photos of stampings and documentation. Any serious buyer would have had the opportunity to look through these photos and ask the owner questions. There weren't any before pictures like the one posted above. I had heard that this car was originally Nugget Gold so I was just looking through the photos to see if there were any before pictures of the car. I believe it started with showing sheet metal being replaced after the car had been stripped and then going from there. I don't remember what all was replaced, but if it would have showed the car being rebodied I would have remembered that. Anyway, it is a beautiful car.

NUGGET GOLD, my favorite '70 442 color. Should never have been changed, what a shame.

Original Colors are denoted on the Broadcast Card. Nugget Gold with a Black Bucket seat interior.
