Posi springs

Can anyone tell me if the springs in this 12-bolt posi carrier are originals, higher or lower pressure than factory stock?

The 200 pound springs were standard in the Eaton Posi and they were usually green, but I have seen several that had no paint on them. The 400 pound springs are yellow and the 800 pound springs are supposed to be red, but most that I have seen had no paint on them. The 800 pound springs had thicker plates than the 200 pound springs. You picture is too close for me to tell, but I can tell you that you have the weak daisy clutch plates. I recommend changing them to the solid plates. You do have the better hardened cross shaft instead of the chrome plated one.

Those resemble stock Eaton posi springs , only way to know for sure is too remove 1 and measure free length and installed length and wire thickness and check pressures.
Stock Eaton springs work fine IMO |
Ok, thanks for the info.
Would the clutch plates hold up during street driving, with an occasional hard launch? |
The only answer that I can give you is; maybe. I've removed a few sets from street cars that were broke, and many that were not broke. That clutch set was a replacement set and as far as I know they were not OEM. It was supposed to reduce clutch chatter, but in many cases it actually made it worse.

I agree with Freddie, the replacement GM & aftermarket clutch plates with the “ear” or paddle type plate don’t seem to work as well IMO, & I’ve seen a lot of them broken after disassembly . The earlier 360* version was trouble free.
We used a lot of GM posi,s in 12 second street type cars in the 70,s and they weren’t a issue, what usually broke were the GM axles. |
Moroso Brute Strength Posi is the way to go!

I measured the wire diameter on a 200 pound spring tonight and it's .105" if this helps.

Thanks for the info guys.
This was a carrier with 4.10 gears I was thinking of buying, but will probably pass on now. |
