1968 Yenko - SS Grille Emblem Question

I have a dumb question for all of you on the SS grille emblem. All of the 1968 camaros were delivered to Yenko with the SS package, which would have included the SS grille emblem. Most of the 68's I've looked at have the SS grille emblem, but there are a few that don't. Is there anything behind this or am I overanalyzing it? I hate to ask, but I figured someone might know.

When I restored Dana Hurt's 68 YS8011 Yenko I did a lot of research. My understanding was that Don did not want to promote the SS so he removed all of the SS badging such as the front grille and fender SS emblems. The rear SS gas tank filler cap was blacked out. His car came to me in original paint and I also found where the original SS fender emblems had been sheared off with the pins still stuck in the fenders and then the Yenko emblems applied over the original holes. This is what my research found. Hope this answers some of your question.

This would also hold true with the 69 Yenko...for the front bow tie grill emblem....it was removed .....so in theory on a restored car ...there should be an impression or something....depicting there was an emblem there after its removal.

Thanks Rick and Copo Cartel. The 68 Yenko that sold at Barrett Jackson in Palm Beach had the SS grille badging and the 68 Yenko selling next week at Mecum does not have the grille badging which made me question it. You both confirmed what I found. There is a picture in the COPO Book of Don Yenko in 1968 standing next to one of his cars that did not have the SS grille emblem. In the grand scheme of things, the SS grille emblem probably doesn't mean much, but I'm just trying to familiarize myself with every aspect of these cars. The level of knowledge some of you have in these forums regarding these cars is incredible and I appreciate everyone sharing.

It’s my second day on the job ! Small details always makes a great car. I will be at Mecum Indy to enjoy the festivities.

Based on research as well - i agree with Ricks analysis...

My non converted 68 Yenko - continued to have the ss emblem on the front as you would expect, as some of the dealer tasks to convert were not completed, such as the front and rear badge were not removed or modified (like the rear one being painted) .

Some of there restored cars are not alway 100% correct - the usual liberties taken by the owner or restorer, but as i said above, Ricks research is correct.

looking through my 68 file, there are 5 original 1968 Yenko Camaro photos that show the SS emblems on the fenders with the Yenko crest above the Camaro emblem.

I have one original photo showing the SS emblems removed with the Yenko crest below the Camaro emblem.

Can you post that photo?
