Radio delete plate question

I know it's not technically called a radio delete plate but everyone knows what one looks like. With that out of the way, I am restoring a radio delete plate for a 69 Chevelle and trying to make it as close to factory as I can. The dash carrier was all chrome, masked and painted. That's what I plan to do on the carrier but the delete plate looks like it was painted black and the highlighted area painted silver. I don't think they will match but does everyone agree this would be correct?

I have a plate (don't say d-e-l-e-t-e or you'll get a tounge lashing) on my 67 Camaro that was removed from a 68 Z28 many years ago. It is all black. Not sure about 69 chevelle but I remebember seeing one on a 67 chevelle that was black and painted silver around the outside edge.

Thanks Richard, I know about it being the wrong term but when the tongue lashing people have one for sale what do they call them? I never looked at one close up until this week, and always thought they would match the dash.

Dustin, here's a picture of an original 69 Chevelle block-off plate I've had on the shelf for about 12 years. The Silver paint is slightly faded (I don't believe they were chrome). Hope this helps.

Thanks Don, that looks identical to mine but wanted to verify before I painted it silver.

they are flash chromed..ive had NOS, a few, and they are chrome not just paint..but i dont see how you would replicate it...i used a chrome hobby pen ...theres 2 shades and the bright chrome seems to be the best choice

Re: Radio delete plate question

I have two originals and both have the highlight painted silver. I would not rule out the possibility of chrome highlights. I have several original 69 horn shrouds, some are silver highlighted and some are chrome highlighted. Not to say this equates directly to the block off plate, but you never know.

Personally, just to be a little different and match the rest of the dash bezel, I'd consider chroming it.

If you are going to use paint, the silver/chrome leaf pens that you can get at the hobby stores do a great job.

Re: Radio delete plate question

Mine could be flash chromed as well and when it wears off it looks like paint. The steering wheel horn shroud is a good example, they didn't chrome the entire shroud yet a lot of the originals look chrome. I might send it with the dash and have them decide. Thanks for everyones thoughts on the subject.
