I never knew about the fast idle cam recall. Seems like the plastic cam is cracked on almost every '69 carb core I've seen.

You forgot the R picture.

That's not a broadcast code. All carb broadcast codes are 2-digit - EH is your broadcast code.
Never heard anyone use the term pick code, btw.

R = Ridiculous(ly)

R = Rad

R = Rochester

ok..so i used the term"pick code" for the R..i should have used the word identifier...i didnt see where you asked a question..i usually dont keep track of other peoples for sale threads..and really..i try not to pass "bad info"..

if you have both in your hand, its hard to tell..but if you read the side of the carbs it either says "rochester quadrajet" or "quadrajet by carter"...

since GM used both Rochester and Carter q-jets..the big R is an identifier to help assy workers to choose the right carb for the application ..its not either or..its to choose the correct one and how that was determined isnt clear..or no one has told me in a way i that ibelieve it

last night i was going to clarify, what i was trying to convey..that EH is the pick code, and the R is a way for the workers to ID it as a rochester..but i got busy and didnt..

GM contracted Carter to fill the production gaps that rochester couldnt keep up with..

Im no expert..just an observer...

I don't buy it. There were multiple suppliers for most items.
EH gave you the correct carb, be it Rochester or Carter manufactured. There was no need to differentiate carb suppliers.
I (and others and rebuilders) have or have seen some mint original carbs and none have any paint stamp like that on them

ive seen it many many many times....mostly on pontiac and olds carbs..most early take off that havent been restored..ive had 100s of carbs go thru my hands..and ive seen it..so..i dunno..its not on every carb but its on enough its not something someone made up..and ive only seen it on 69 and 70 carbs

Here's a picture of the carb on my 69 Chevelle SS396 convertible, L35, taken in July 2002 just after I purchased it. At that time the car had just under 20,000 miles on it and was largely untouched. The carb has still never been off the car, but the orange plug wires and chrome loom are long gone :)
