New GPS Recommendations

I need to buy a new GPS for a trip next week, I have researched Garmin & TomTom, none of them have great reviews. I do not need the new one that receives messages and other options I would not use.

Smart phones have really put a dent into Garmin,Tom Tom & On Star etc.

iPhone; use Google maps or Waze.

If you don't have an iphone or an android based cell phone, you money would be better spent on a new phone than a stand alone gps unit. Most, if not all new smart phones come with google maps pre installed which is a free app and is as good if not better than any stand alone gps unit. I have a gps unit I havn't used in years since I bought a smart phone...I interface my phone to my car radio with a usb cable and google maps comes up right on the screen on my dash and functions like built in gps. And google maps is updated regularly free of charge whereas stand alone gps units charge you when you need to upgrade your maps....buy a new phone and forget about a stand alone gps unit!

I have a new iPhone XsMax, I do not like looking at a small screen. I have a 2003 Toyota Tundra, I never tried to interface with a usb cable

Apple car play and Google maps probably won't interface with a vehicle that old. Why do you even have to look at the screen? Google maps will talk to you and give turn by turn instructions so there's no real need to look at the screen....just listen

Jeff, if you're trailering use Trucker Maps. There is no better option and Google Maps/Waze do not have a commercial vehicle setting.

I guess I am use to navigation in my vehicles, besides if you are out in the middle of Tim-Buck-2 & there is no cell phone reception your phone is useless.
