This popped up on the Hellcat.org site a couple days ago from a guy wanted to know if anyone had any info on these cars. It belonged to his late uncle, who bought it new. I referred him here but just in case anyone wants to check it out.

https://www.hellcat.org/threads/1970...ss-ls6.256030/

Here's what he posted initially:

"My name is Don. I recently read a motortrend article by Patrick Hill. The article, 1970 Chevrolet LS6 Chevelles - Winning Pair, is dated May 2, 2011. The article revolves around a 1970 Hugger Orange Chevelle SS LS6. Patrick says there were only 4 hugger orange LS6’s made. He knew of 2 but didn’t know anything about the other 2. I recently purchased a 1970 Hugger Orange Chevelle SS LS6 from my Uncle’s estate. We grew up together and I have many fond memories. I am fortunate enough to be able to keep it in the family. The car has 25k miles on in and has been garage kept. Everything on it is original including the paint. This car could be number 3 of the 4 manufactured and based on the build sheet it may be the very first one manufactured.

I have been trying to get hold of Juan-Carlos Escobar . I believe this article is about his Chevelle. Any help would be much appreciated."

Thanks much."

And after a bunch of people replied including the usual "why are you on a hellcat site blah, blah, blah", responses, several knowledgable people gave him some help.

"Thanks much for the info Rob. Yes I have the build sheet ( actually 2 of them) and it has special paint - Hugger Orange hand written on it. Yes I agree I am having a lot of problems finding information since records are scarce. Most of my information is coming from knowledgeable folks like yourself, and I appreciate that. This is the reason I am trying to reach out to Jaun, as well as, the motortrend writer, Patrick Hill. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the '138' pertained to models up to 1968. Actually my car does not have any door jam stickers. Not sure if this is normal or not. My car doesn't look as good as your yet but it will. Notice my Uncle was a not flashy guy. He ordered this car with out stripes, bench seats, and automatic with column shifter. The guys at the auto club used to jack him about it not being a 454 ls6...lol, but man this car would run. Remember late 60's early 70's was a time when street racing was as popular as google is now. He said many times he only lost 2 races and both were to corvettes. As I said in my original post this car has a lot memories for me and I am so glad I was able to get it. Side note: I just got the car in mid September. 2 weeks later my house in Fort Myers took a direct hit from hurricane Ian. I have be working on the house ever since the hurricane but now I am able to get back to it. The can has not been started in 32 years so it is taking me a little time to ensure it is ready to run.

Thanks again to you and every one else who responded to my post."

----Wow! Kind of wonder where the car was sold and spent it's early years. Sometime in the early 80's I saw an LS6 in a small town just over the river from Louisville KY in Indiana. It was optioned and colored exactly like this LS6. The engine was sitting on an engine stand next to the car and been out since around the early 70's. There was nothing wrong with it. The owner was going to modify it but never got around to it. Best part was less than 5,000 original miles. It wasn't for sale at that time, and I have always wondered what happened to it.....Bill S

I have 6 Hugger Orange LS6's in my database. I do not have the car in question nor do I believe I have any from KY.

Hugger Orange LS-6

"Notice my Uncle was a not flashy guy. He ordered this car with out stripes, bench seats, and automatic with column shifter."

But he did order an LS-6 in Hugger Orange, so he had a Flair for LOUD colors. Another one found, Very Cool!

An LS-6 just like this surfaced around Pittsburgh a few months back. Very similar story about an uncle and it was orange.

Interesting to me that the majority of the special Orange cars are non zl2. You’d think if you thought far enough ahead to special order a car in a loud color like this you would check the box for cowl hood and stripes too. Hard to be a sleeper in this color

I saw that on Facebook too. Picture was the car getting taken out of a basement on a rollback. In those pics there was orange overspray all over the frame. And the op never produced pics of a buildsheet or any other info
