'65 L-79 Malibu

Neat non-SS L-79 Malibu that was for sale a couple years back. Frighteningly bad bodywork and paint are evident in the current auction pics; I give the seller credit for pointing out these areas as you'd never see them in 'typical' pictures. Looks like a car to avoid, despite it being a very cool and rarely seen 350hp non-SS car.

65 l79...

I remember those cars back in the day...they could run.

As for this car...it is a shame to see the condition. The radiator hose clamps holding the tailpipes tells the whole story. :frown:

$52K and a ton of money on body work and paint!

That ugly piece of wide side trim on non-SS ‘65’s absolutely ruins the beauty of those cars & the mounting holes are absolutely huge! I actually sold a very nice red ‘65 that was a twin to this car because I just couldn’t mentally get past that trim no matter how hard I tried.

I hear that, I have the same opinion of 66 Chevy II (although the trim isn't that wide), even though it's on a raised part of the panels, it destroys the body lines to me.

Given this car will cost a fortune to get body/paint right. What do y’all think this car is realistically worth? 30k?

I like the hub caps and whitewalls.

It hurts me to see this Chevelle in this deteriorated condition. Bench seat 4 speed, L79, RED fabric interior in a red car, wheel covers on white walls. Any one feature gets my attention, but ALL in the same car!! :eek2:

At least the seller is honest about the issues. IMO it would be crazy ($$$$$) to dive into a restoration, best to be a budget/entry level driver at MUCH MUCH less money.

Side note, I am a sucker for bench/4 speed cars a step or two down from top trim levels, L79 Malibu, 409/427 straight Impala or BelAir, tri-carb Catalina etc. Even a COPO '69 or LS6 Chevelle I would prefer bench/4 speed or column shift auto. I'm weird that way I guess. - Bill W

I've always really liked the '64-'65 Chevelles and have thought that they don't get enough love.I hope this one gets bought by someone who restores it properly cause the old girl sure deserves it.

----Dave,,,If this Chevelle was $30,000 and I was 10 years younger I'd jump on it, and make it right! And,,,I'm not even a fan of arrest-me-red....Bill S
