How deep does the rabbit hole go: former SF resident Grace Slick singing White Rabbit over shots of The Matrix in SF. Where did Jefferson Airplane get their start? A club in the city called The Matrix:

I've told several people about that video over the years. She sure can sing.

Hard to believe she'll be 82 next month. I heard a Jefferson Starship tune(Mickey Thomas on vocals) this morning and I was thinking about Grace Slick.

Amazing she lived thru those drug infused years.
Me and 3 others were on our way to a concert in MPLS in 1970 of Jefferson Airplane and they announced on the radio that the concert had been cancelled due to her being too drunk and high to perform. Never did get to see them live.

I wish that vocal was recorded dry (no reverb). It would really bring out the nuances in her voice. She's strong. I saw Jefferson Starship (Red Octopus tour) at the Great American Music Fair September 2, 1975 at the NY State fairgounds. Kinda of a mud-fest as well. I remember Grace commenting on some guy in front that was naked and covered in mud. She was loving it, but I seem to remember the guy was getting dragged off. That was quite a show. I remember the bill was huge. America, Jefferson Starship, New Riders of the Purple Sage, The Beach Boys and The Doobie Brothers. I don't recall if there was anybody else. I have some pictures in my stash. I'll have to find them. Oh! I found a link to an article and some pictures!

That's what I remember!

I saw them in the Diamond Head Sunshine Festival on New Years Day 1976. Santana, Country Joe and the Fish, Cheech and Chong and other groups played that day. I swam in College and we would have training trips to Hawaii with other teams and have a big swim meet at University of Hawaii. What a blast.
