No damage car trailer tie downs
Planning ahead for when my car will come home with me. I have a 20 ft. enclosed trailer, nothing fancy but it is lacking what I think are adequate tie downs. Obviously I want to be able to safely anchor the car to the floor but also don't want to damage my subframe/axle finishes. Should I install some E-track and use tire straps? What are some recommendations from you guys that do this successfully?

In my neck of the woods, it is now law to have at least two opposing tires strapped down. You can do all 4 and eliminate the frame straps, but do not use e-track. Install proper D rings that are installed to support the required weight.

I pickup the seat belt wraps at Walmart that are covered with sheeps wool, like on the inside of a winter coat. I have never had a problem with them leaving rub marks.

e track and over the tire e track tie downs. No crawling under the car or any straps touching any painted part of my cars. The only way to do it.

I love my E Tracks. If you have cars wider than Camaros - it's a little tough to access the wheels to get the parts secured in my enclosed trailer (at least for an old guy like me!).

I have loops welded on the frame of the race car and I have axle straps. I use the axle straps instead of the loops so the shocks aren’t tied down with pressure on them while transporting. The straps haven’t damaged any paint on the rear housing or front crossmember. I’m not a big fan of the wheel tie downs because of the skinny front tires, the low pressure rear slicks and the fact that you can’t crisscross to eliminate and sideways motion. Lots of theories on securing a car in/on a trailer, just make sure you choose one that is safe.

My apologies if it seems as though I'm hijacking the thread, but I have a question for you guys.
I have a concern I see with 2nd gen F bodies. I like to cross my tie downs in the front end. It seems like the control arms pinch the axle strap and thus could wear through it. Where are the attachment points you are using? Thanks, Tim |
